I've been away for awhile, but I had orginally hoped to make a return in here bragging about an A's series win over the Angels. Instead I'm deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Nick Adenhart. My thoughts and prayers go to the family, the Angels and the fans.

This is horrible. Made the win meaningless for me as an A's fan.

I am glad they caught the drunk a-hole. I wish they could tie him to a fence and let the Angels have batting practice on him. I am so angry right now.

How the hell does a MINIVAN hit an SUV, and the drunk jerk in the minivan turn out alright? Life just isn't fair.

Pete, I hope you don't think less of me for this, but I do pray for him and his family too. Imagine what his family is about to endure, too.

Trust me, I am with you in your sentiments about the man and his actions.

But I just can't find it within me to pass judgement, at least that's the way I feel right now. I believe in God, a Higher Power but I believe him to be a God of compassion. Perhaps that's better suited for the Debate Lounge.

I respedct your feelings and opinions, Pete. You deal with justice, in your own way, every day. I hope you can respect my feelings as well.

    Other random thoughts....

At the press conference, Mike Sciosia was very professional and handled himself well.

I can only what he and the Angel "family" was like behind the scenes today.

Funny how I had this image of Scott Boras as nothing more than a money-grubber. He certainly showed a human side today.

It's still hard to think about the Angels-Red Sox game coming up.

When will it be okay to think about baseball again? And how this will affect the team on the field?

Guess that's a question for another day. Like, um, Friday.

Got to experience the Grand re-opening of the New Kauffman Stadium today. It was fantastic. Almost like a new stadium.

Check out my pics from today:

BTW, we experienced a moment of silence for Nick today. It touched my heart seeing his picture on the scoreboard.

Pat, I loved your photos! I always wanted to visit Royals/Kaufman Stadium. From the beginning, on TV it always looked like one of the better stadiums in the game. Now it looks like they've just improved on it!

Sorry that you had to lose to the evil empire

They had a beautiful ceremony to remember Nick at the Big A tonight. There is now a mural or him on the outfield wall, and every player will wear a small number 34, above the heart on their jerseys.

And the makeshift memorial in front of the stadium gets bigger and bigger.

The only negative thing for me of the day was the final score...and maybe paying $6.00 for a hot dog.--->

Do they have good KC barbecue at the stadium?

Sigh. The Sox are now 1-3, and already, it doesn't look good.

    Strange question:

Do you think they really miss Manny? He took a lot of heat away from the other players with his attitude.

No, not that strange a question. Unless you consider how strange Manny is.

I suspect they don't miss his personality in the clubhouse, but oh, yeah, they sure miss his bat, which is why they got caught up in the Texeira bidding war. Good pitching always stops good hitting, and the AL East (and the Angels) are loaded.

I suspect that if Jason Bay or JD Drew don't start hitting big time this year, and coming through in the clutch, that at least one of them will be gone by next season.

I didn't get around enough to see a BBQ stand at the stadium. I'll check on my next visit.

    Re: Baseball 2009

Rays came close last night against Baltimore but couldn't get a couple extra runs to win it. Longoria hit 2 homers though (up to 4 so far) and Navarro hit one as well. Hopefully we'll get them tonight.

I have a feeling the Orioles are going to be a team that's going to surprise a lot of people this year.

Can't wait to go to the Trop next Tuesday!
