True, but he served a purpose for me. Living in AZ and not wanting to give Directv the money for the NFL package, I saw 9 of the 16 games last year due to the Farve stuff. So it worked for me.. kinda.

Then, for the last several years - a renovated Coliseum. Maybe the Rose Bowl. A new football stadium in the Angel Stadium parking lot, part of a proposed "Anaheim Sportstown".

Yet here we in SoCal sit, without a team. I always disliked the Raiders, especially while they were here...and my heart, as a diehard Ram fan, was crushed when they moved to St. Louis.

Unlike some others I know, I cannot root for the "St. Louis" Rams. As a matter of fact, I have rooted for them to lose every game since they moved.

So my always favorite AFC team, the Chargers, have become my favorite team, though never with the same fervor I once had for the Rams.
Sounds like you have a lot in common with some of my older relatives that were Brooklyn Dodger and New York (baseball) Giants fans. After they left NY for the west coast, there wasn't a "keep rooting for my team" attitude. It was more of an angry and betrayed, "don't let the door hit you on your *** on the way out" attitude. But they didn't have to wait 15 years for the Mets to come around.

So Jets won big today and Mark Sanchez looked very good overall for his first game as a rookie. I was impressed. I still hate his alma mater, but I can look past that now that he's on my team in the NFL. Rex Ryan still worries me though. The defense looked great today as to be expected from a Ryan but I remember when I moved out here and his father Buddy was coaching the Cardinals (they were playing "Buddy Ball" ) and while the defense was great, the offense sucked. The key difference for the Jets may be Brian Schottenheimer as the Offensive Coordinator. Time will tell.

But then again, we always seem to play better against the Raiders because of the rivalry.
At least one of the "talking heads" at ESPN (Mike Golic) has picked the Chargers to go all the way.

I have faith in Phillip Rivers. I'd like to have faith in Shawne Merriman on defense. He's making it hard, of course.

But is Norv Turner the guy to take them to the promised land? I honestly don't think he's as good a coach as Marty Schottenheimer. Or, going back a generation, Don Coryell.

Of course, the only coach that took my L-A Rams to the Super Bowl wasn't George Allen, or Chuck Knox, but Ray Malavasi, and we damn near beat the Steelers, so...

I know people that have been proud of the fact that they've been able to root for teams despite numerous city changes. And I have friends that I went to games in Anaheim with, who still root for them.

I'm telling you, PB, that when St. Louis had its Super Bowl run I was rooting like crazy for Tennessee. And I had to watch Madame Ram accept the Vince Lombardi trophy. I was literally sick to my stomach. And I cheered loudly when New England pulled that big upset two years later. Jumped and danced. Imagine, the knocked off the Raiders and Rams in the same run!

The Rams were never the same after Carroll Rosenbloom died. And while the deal to move from the Coliseum to Anaheim was a good financial move, after he died the thing blew up in the Rams face. They wanted to build office space in the parking lot, and Gene Autry, rest his soul, fought em in court and won.

And after that, they nickeled and dimed the team to where by the time the left, there were relatively few fans left to care after several losing seasons.

Then she rapes the Missouri taxpayers with a sweetheart of all sweetheart deals, starts paying players like she never did here, and the rest is history.

The Bears lost tonite 21 to 15. Our quarterback threw so many interceptions that I lost count. I'm glad that I didn't just stay up to watch the Bears. I was also putting up shelves in my closet, while the radio was on. So the evening wasn't a total waste.

I am going to reserve judgement on Jay Cutler, because this was just one game, and he did come back to some extent in the second half.

But for all of his big mouth, he never won anything in Denver.

Credit to Aaron Rodgers, one of the really good guys of the NFL, for making the plays when it counted.

And guess who comes to Soldier Field next weekend...the Steelers.

A side note...

That obvious bit of self-promotion by NBC at halftime, with Costas and Jay Leno, was going to be painful in the best of circumstances.

But with the satellite delay, it was downright embarrassing.

On a brighter note, I think Tony Dungy will bring a lot to the telecasts, and having Costas on-site is a good move too.

That was quite a game Barbaraann. Don't get to down on Cutler. He's going to have a big year, I can feel it (of course that means nothing). I didn't fully understand the fake punt though.

Re: Let's Talk Football

Chiefs almost a pull an upset in Baltimore. Matt Cassel couldn't start with a bad knee, so Brodie Croyle filled in. Then he was taking out. Then he was put back in. He did an okay job.

We saw a little of that Todd Haley 'fire' on the sidelines today. We are destined for a bad year, but it should be fun watching Haley's sideline screaming matches this season.

Thanks to satellite radio, I was able to listen to the same broadcast you did...on the "WBBM - Bears Radio Network". Those guys weren't bad...they called the game pretty objectively I thought.

Michael Irvin picked the Chargers to go to the Super Bowl if that means anything lol...

Is Norv the guy that can get us there? I dunno, but we have been winning in the post season with him.

And that's not to knock at Marty. I thank him for what he has done with the Chargers while he was here, and I wish he could of had one more season at least.

Also, I've been a huge Merriman supporter since he arrived here, but nowadays I really don't feel like wearing 56 again. After the drug use, the waiting on getting surgery, and now this whole fiasco with Tila. It just upsets me. I remember when he said he wanted to be better then Seau... On the field he may still have that chance, but off the field, it's not even close.

Cutler has the talent, he just needs to get his act together and ditch his attitude.

Same here. Can't count on anything up there in the Black Hole, except seeing a senile old man on the Raider sidelines and a bunch of scary people in what is probably their usual attire.
