They had already proved twice in the half they didn't have it on the short field.. - that's why I think Norv went for the points. Then they proved it again in the 4th. So I think that vindicates Norv a bit. Maybe with his linemen back, he would have been more gutsy, but could'a, should'a, would'a

I think the final series was the bigger call. They almost got the touchdown prior, but Walker just tipped the ball out of the reciever's hands for a huge play. I would have had Rivers throwing on the final down instead of Sproles purely in a single back formation or at least another play that wouldn't have called for straight up the middle. The failure to pick up Lewis was a complete shocker for me.. it was as if someone just changed the channel and I was watching another game it was so out of the blue and clean.

Maybe someone should be checking some of the wagers of the SD linemen

Rivers was 25 out of 45, that's no where near a guarantee on that play, but then again, our running game was non existent for the game as well. If Ray Lewis was picked up, I'm sure Sproles could have managed 2 yards.

But, if Naanee went for the first down instead of trying to make a play, we would not have to worry about it.

You learn and move on. Hopefully things will come together against the Dolphins.

Thank you! Conservative play calling is what got Marty canned. For the life of me, I can't understand why Norv is still here after last season. Eight seconds is all KINDS of time for a short pass. If you miss, the clock stops and here comes Kaeding. You don't waste those five seconds when you're behind by that much.

And Sproles, God bless his heart, can't push mountains out of his way. That's what his offensive line is for. Except...the Chargers don't seem to have one this year. Between Rivers having to constantly run for his life, and the fact that no one seems to be able to block for Sproles (who keeps getting NAILED in every game) they need to set Rivers up in the shotgun and just let him nail Gates for short yardage....again and again. It sure beats asking Sproles to move guys twice his size out of his way. Although he HAS done that on occasion... Or throw short to Naanee, or Chambers or VJ or that Samoan guy. Give Rivers 3 seconds to nail someone with the blitz coming in and they'd be all set. But he kept trying to go long for most of the game, when they weren't asking Sproles to run through brick walls.

I think that Brady could have done the same thing for the Patriots but didn't. When he ran that no huddle offense up the field two weeks ago, he was amazing. I would have loved to have seen more of that. With a gimpy LT, the chargers are just not going to run the ball unless they can give Sproles at least a tiny crack to squeeze through.

You have to wonder what happened to Bennett though. I thought he was usually good for short yardage. What happened to him? Was he hurt? Why didn't they use him??

Re: Let's Talk Football - NFL 2009/2010

Oh look! Detroit actually won a game!! And my team... lost yet again. Oh. Surprise.

On other fronts, the 49ers fought a brave battle against the Vikings, but could not pick up on 3rd down conversions, which end the end probably cost them the game. Had they made their down within the last two minutes of the game, and kept control of the ball... they most likely would have pulled it off. And who said Favre is to old to play football? Not the Vikings I'm thinking!

I posted that football players should not wear green, but then I remembered the colors of the Green Bay Packers. The Seahawk jerseys are very unusual indeed.

The Bears managed to win another football game today. Bears 25, Seahawks 19.

Well, that was vintage Favre in the 4th quarter. What else can one say?

Besides, you didn't have Gore.

There's no such thing as a moral victory, but keep your eye on the big picture as to how much the Niners have improved, to be in position to win that game.

The Lions are going to win at least four games this year. If they couldn't beat that Skins team at home, well - they still had St. Louis coming up - sorry, Penguin.

I went 12-3 in my pool yesterday. Guessed right on the Lions and Bengals.

But the old man from Mississippi has me and a few others on the outside, looking in, once again. (Along with the Jags and Bears in my case).

Guess I'll just root for Jerr-ah while yet another network gushes over his new palace tonight, and be happy in the knowledge that I'd be 13-3...better than most of the folks who cover the league for a living.

Barry, I also guessed right on the Lions ... didn't see the Bengals one coming. I lost the Steelers, 49ers and Seahawks games.

Not being in a football pool makes my football season more enjoyable, and my pocketbook fuller, since I never won much anyway.

Re: Let's Talk Football - NFL 2009/2010

Browns are a sad excuse for a team right now, although when the Bengals got Marvin Lewis, it took him quite a few years to start doing anything with that team.
Did not see the Bengals game coming. Cincinnati is on cloud nine right now and I know they are going to kill the Browns Sunday unless a miracle happens. That was the first time the Steelers Big Ben lost a game in Ohio and I can guess that would be a big blow.
