Mine only costs an average of about $3 a week. Since I have no local team to be really passionate about, and I'm still very much a fan of the game, it's just something that heightens my overall enjoyment.

Did not see the Bengals game coming. Cincinnati is on cloud nine right now and I know they are going to kill the Browns Sunday unless a miracle happens. That was the first time the Steelers Big Ben lost a game in Ohio and I can guess that would be a big blow.
I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that Eric Mangini is hardly Eric Man-Genious. Based on what I've seen, he couldn't coach a dog to bark, and has already alienated himself from his team...hard to do, three games in.

This has more to do with Mangini than the talent on the Browns, of which they have a LOT.

Same with Washington. They probably have more "talent" on their team than most teams, but they don't have the confidence, and their coach isn't doing anything to milk the talent.

Of course, I've heard "other" non-postable names for Mangini.

But I agree with you fully.

Well, Cleveland fired Eric today.

Okay, it was the Indians and Wedge.

One down, one to go.

Speaking of Cleveland...I see where the Bengals and Browns have 2:00 to go in overtime.

Good thing Donovan McNabb is nowhere around.

Remember kids, if the overtime ends in a tie, the game ends, in a tie...

It's a given that the Lambs are going to lose but to pour salt upon the ever festering wound, I have to put up with the 49er fans at work tomorrow and I lost a fantasy football matchup because the 49er D put up 39 points for my opponent.

That was really something to see Tony Romo really come throiugh for his team, one of those fourth quarter comebacks for the ages, getting the tying TD with no time left.

You didn't see that? Romo, living up to all the hype, willing his team into overtime on the road as great quarterbacks do...you didn't see that today?

Can't talk about the Chargers. It's still too painful.

Re: Let's Talk Football - NFL 2009/2010

I pull for the Chargers, but I picked the Steelers to win and it was pretty much a no-brainer to me. Pittsburgh was the more desperate team at 1-2...home game on Sunday night for them.

I did think San Diego would put up more of a fight. I know they made a game of it late, but the Steelers were in control throughout.

I'm assuming the Chargers left their real defense back home, and hired some homeless bums along the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers to take their place and wear their jerseys.

One more Cowboy question. How many Dallas defenders does it take, to tackle Brandon Marshall? Apparently, more than five.

Re: Let's Talk Football - NFL 2009/2010

If you didn't see the Ravens/Pats game on video, its hard to convey what really transpired in that game. It was a pretty frustrating game to watch both in some of the ref calls (Brady really is untouchable) and the Ravens not calling to run the ball more often. With the half winding down, Ravens had thrown the ball almost 35 times already!

The Ravens were killing themselves with untimely penalties (hearing Harbough calling a call 'bull****' on live TV was fun.. till he got the 15 yard penalty) and then to be in the game in the very last minute was quite thrilling. But then a single dropped pass killed it all.

If the Ravens had actually ran the ball in the first half, I'm wondering how it could have been. I'm amazed the Raven's defense didn't collapse after how long they were on the field!

I know that the NFL is a quarterback-driven league.

I know that they're doing everything to promote offense, because "supposedly" defensive struggle games don't pull in the ratings.

But having said all that, like Rodney Harrison said on TV last night, the quarterback is a football player too.

And I say that Tom Brady especially might just as well come out wearing a dress.

The pendulum has swung too far in the direction of protecting the quarterback, and that's something I hope the competition committee and the owners will look at next off-season.

And til then, maybe the refs can be a little less strict in their interpretation of the rules.

I know it was just the Lambs, but my 49ers are now 3-1 (almost 4-0).

It will be interesting to see how we do against Atlanta this week. If we win that game, maybe we'll start getting some respect?

I know that it's not the kind you are talking about, but you (and the 49ers) have had my respect all along this season. I predicted them to win the NFC West.

By the way, look at the job Mike Nolan is doing as Denver's defensive co-ordinator. He built the defense in San Francisco that Singletary has inherited.

Some people are just better suited to be coordinators not head coaches.

I would have been VERY happy if they had kept Nolan as Defensive coordinator, but that power struggle would have been odd.

Wade Phillips is a prime example of that theory. Norv Turner as well.

Re: Let's Talk Football - NFL 2009/2010

Tuning in and out of some games on this baseball Sunday...

The Cowboys needed overtime to beat the Chiefs? How overrated are they? And just what pictures of Jerry Jones does Wade Phillips have, to keep his job?

Watching some of the AFL throwback uniform games...

You know that I probably appreciate tradition more than many others do here.

And I'm glad to see the NFL pay homage to the 50th season of the old AFL teams.

But some of these old uniforms look like a bad dream you'd have after eating too much Mexican food. Maybe Taco Bell (I know, that's nowhere close to real Mexican food).

But I always have liked the old Chargers, and Patriots uniforms. I much prefer the "Minuteman center" logo to the thing they have on their helmets today.

Seeing the referees make me hear the bells of an ice crea truck, and want to run out into the street to buy an orange dream-sicle.

And congrats to ksjer! The Browns found someone they could beat. Buffalo, with that great Terrell Owens, amasses three..count em three...points. Against the Cleveland defense.

Wow.
