You really think Boston will let Orlando beat them out again. I don't think so. Both Boston and L.A. Lakers will both meet in the NBA finals in 2010. With the L.A. Lakers being champions again.

Portland??? If they can avoid injuries, they will be good, but not good enough to beat the Lakers in 5 games. In another year or two (again, barring health) they will be the team to beat in the West. I truly believe that.
The Blazers beat the Lakers 2 out of 3 times last year...including one blow-out.

That was a Blazer team filled with rookies.......this year those rookies are a year older whereas the Lakers are just getting old

My predictions:

Western Conference

1.Los Angeles Lakers
2.Denver Nuggets
3.San Antonio Spurs
4.Portland Trailblazers
5.Dallas Mavericks
6.Utah Jazz
7.Los Angeles Clippers
8.Golden State Warriors

Eastern Conference

1.Cleveland Caviliers
2.Orlando Magic
3.Boston Celtics
4.Miami Heat
5.Atlanta Hawks
6.Detroit Pistons
7.Charlotte Bobcats
8.Toronto Raptors

I'll be shocked if we see the Lakers and Clippers square off in the Western Conference Finals. Maybe not this year but who knows? Maybe Blake and Baron can get the Clippers to the Western Conference Finals.

Portland??? You mean Greg Oden is going to play in at least 75% of the games this season?

At least the Clippers played the Lakers and Suns pretty tough the past few nights. It's something to build on at least. And at least no one's called out Dunleavy yet.

Now turn the knife counter-clockwise

Of course injuries can change everything.....what will LA be like if Kobe goes down; Boston if it loses one of it's stars? Cleveland if it loses James or O'neal?

One thing for sure though; no team is deeper than the Portland Trail Blazers this year......they have 9 players all of who could and would be starting if they played for a less loaded team.

Oden goes down.....there's Prizz
Roy goes down......there's Rudy F.
Blake goes down(that's right, Blake is starting) in comes Miller.
Batum has gone down but taking his place on opening night Travis Outlaw led both teams in scoring.

Only at the Power Forward spot do we not have a true starting quality back-up to Aldridge.....but Howard is no slouch and coach McMillen proved last year he's not afraid to put both of his starting quality centers out on the floor at the same time.

Re: NBA 2009-2010 Season

The Blazers have a good record against the Lakers because like most other teams in the NBA playing the Lakers is the game of their lives. Everyone plays harder against the Lakers and sometimes it get the best of them. But, there's 82 games and a long playoff schedule to insure the best wins and not the team who was riding on false pretenses. It's almost as if when crappy team from a hick-town beats the Los Angeles Lakers they prove something to themselves and trick themselves into thinking they are better then they really are and in the end they still are barely better than .500 and end up watching the Finals on ABC.

The Lakers WILL repeat this year after beating the Celtics/Cavs/Magic - that one is too close to call for me but really doesn't matter. The Lakers could play and win them all in a best of 7 series.

Are you saying that the NBA regular season is rather meaningless, since 16 teams make the playoffs, four best-of-seven way-too-long series?

If not, perhaps you should.

Beating the Lakers 2 out of 3 in the "Warm Up" season (for the Lakers) is not the same as beating them in a 7 game series.

Man, I don't know about you guys, but I'd keep my eye on the Phoenix Suns right now.

So far, they're doing very well, an 8-1 record with one of those wins against the Celtics in Boston.

It's waaay to early to call it a "big" or "must" game, but they'll get an early test tonight. I'm interested to see how they do against the Lakers, at Staples. A TNT game. Charles Barkley is the best ex-jock commentator in all sports. Period.

They look to me almost like the Suns of the pre-Shaq Mike Dantoni era. In other words, really fun to watch.

Re: NBA 2009-2010 Season

The New Orleans Hornets have fired coach Byron Scott. Just two years ago this team threatened to go to the top of the Western Conference. They started slowly this year, 3-6, but especially this early in the season it sees like bad timing to be firing your head coach. Scott can coach. He'll be working for some team in the not too distant future.

Blazers play the Hornets Friday.....just another excuse for the Blazer detractors to hoist up when Portland mops the floor with them.

Re: NBA 2009-2010 Season

I am not a Blazer detractor, but they're in much the tougher of the two conferences.

Where do you see them finishing in the 1-8 playoff standings, or beyond, this season?
