Re: It's Playoff Time! The 2009 Official Baseball Post-Season Thread

What would be so awesome which I can guarantee you won't happen is an Angels/Dodgers freeway world series with the Angels beating the Dodgers. The reason why that's not going to happen is in my opinion the Cardinals have it pretty much locked in by the way they've been playing which is why I'm going to say it's going to come down to either Angels/Cardinals or Red Sox/Cardinals.

All I know is Let's Go Angels... let's win this one for Adenhart.

But what could happen which I'm hoping does is the Dodgers end up knocking out the Cardinals, which I still don't think is going to happen. Then have the Phillies knock out the Dodgers and it come down to Angels/Phillies.

The Dodgers took it to Carpenter last night and should have had more than 5 runs. Let's hope they can do it again tonight and go into St. Louis up 2-0.

And this is probably one of the biggest reasons that the Angels are going to finally beat the Sox.

Right now the Wild Cards "biggest" hurdle to overcome is that they don't get home field advantage for the first 2 rounds of the playoffs (if their league wins the All-Star game, they can get home field in the WS). The other "hurdle" they are supposed to overcome is facing the team with the best record but was we saw this year, due to the "same division" rule, the Yankees are facing a division winner, not the Wild Card. Right now the Twins, a division winner, are facing the team with the best record. Is that right? Plus, I thought the last series between the Sox and the Yankees looked bland. The Red Sox were not playing for division crown because they just wanted to be "in the playoffs" (the same thing for my Yankees in 2007). I find this lack of effort and unwillingness to try to win the division as a bad side effect of the Wild Card. I would have liked to see a more exciting series down the stretch. If you agree with me, what could be done in order to make a team in the Wild Card hunt actually go all out and try for the division crown? I would say that the Wild Card team doesn't get a home game in Division or Championship Series' and they could not get home field advantage at all in the WS, no matter the outcome of the All Star game (I'll leave that rant for another day). Thoughts?
First, eliminate the "same division" rule.

Second, make both the first and second rounds best-of-7 (you'll probably have to negotiate this with the players union. You may remember that the championship series used to be the only round before the World Series, and the union had to approve that from going for 3-of-5 to best-of-7.

The wild card should get just one home game. I say make it 2-1-2 for the division winner in terms of home games. That way, if the wild card doesn't take back home field advantage just by winning game one on the road. Alternatively, start the series at the wild card for game 1 and then have all
the rest at the division winner.

And the team with the best record should have home field in the World Series (best record, not highest payroll PB)

And it should be quite a day for SoCal baseball. Dodgers home at 3:07, Angels at 6:37PM (Pacific).

GO ANGELS!!!!

I agree with eliminating the "same division" rule. No reason that the Dodgers should have had to play the Cardinals over the Rockies. Having the best record should mean something. The team with the best record should play the team with the worst record whether that team is the wild card or in the same division.

(well, actually, that worked out in both leagues this year didn't it ... )

The "supposedly inferior" National League had 4 teams with 90+ wins this year.

Question -- what's up with these games starting at 3:07 and 6:37? Why not 3:00 and 6:30?

TV scheduling, of course.

Besides, these are "first pitch" times. 7 PM games never start at 7 PM. it's usually 7:05-ish, or 7:10-ish, or in the case of the White Sox, who have a deal with the convenience store chain, 7:11.

Edit...I feel sorry for a non-fam watching a show on TNT. If the earlier game runs long, as was the case last night, they cut into whatever "we know drama" show and start the late game on TNT and then join TBS when the earlier game is over.

"Were you watching C-S-I, folks? So sorry. We now rejoin, in progress."

Rox win Game 2 against the Phils. Series tied at 1-1. Will Pedro start Game 3 for Philly?

What a comeback at Dodgertown. Dodgers win it in the 9th, 3-2.

2-0 LAD headed to St. Louis for Game 3

Re: It's Playoff Time! The 2009 Official Baseball Post-Season Thread

Amazing game for the Dodgers. I honestly didn't think that Holliday's non-catch in the 9th was an error. It was a hard play to begin with.

There is such a difference than having to win the next 1 of 3 than 2 of 3.

I just hope the Dodgers can finish it out on Saturday.
