    CC Sabathia who?

So the Yankees aren't as indestructible as they thought. I'm usually not overly optimistic when it comes to the Phillies but after tonight, I've never been more proud to call them my team. Now I actually feel as if they have a chance to beat the Yankees.

    Go Chase Utley!

Even though the Angels are my team, I did say previously that I'll pull for any team that has Bruins on it and Philly has two - Utley and Ben Francisco.

For those who watched the game (and for those who'll watch the highlights on Sportscenter or MLBN), how about that incredible behind-the-back grab that Lee made? A true "look what I found!" moment.

The next game could be tough--Pedro Martinez is an incredible competitor.

Anyone else kinda chuckle when Lee caught the infield popup nonchalantly? It was like he was saying "Hey guys, pitchers CAN catch popups." LOL

It just occurred to me that at least this time, Pedro Martinez won't have Don Zimmer to throw around anymore.

Mariano Rivera simply is not human.

He must be an advance scout from some super-alien race assuming human form so that we might be able to understand his near-perfection as a relief pitcher, in ways that we can deal with.

He is obviously the greatest relief pitcher I've ever seen.

And again tonight it was basically lights out after they handed him the ball.

Still, the Phillies got what they needed - a split on the road - and it should be an interesting weekend at "The Bank".

Let's hear it for the Fightin' Phils!

Game 2 goes to the Yanks.

Has anyone kept count how many times McCarver has said "That's what I was thinking" right after Buck makes a point? It's been alot in the games I've seen from FOX.

There are times I think that Joe's other booth buddy Troy Aikman would do a better job on baseball analysis than McCarver.

Of course a blind man could see more in a game than McCarver does.

Ha! It's pretty sad that I agree that Aikman would do a better job. Did you hear him get all over Jeter? I was shocked!

What a crazy 9th inning. Fun game to watch. Just as good as some of the ALCS games. And did anybody else see Chan Ho Park spit in his hand and then rub up the ball when he came in the game. I have it on Tivo. Not that I think spit does too much for break (not as much as other things pitchers have used), but his first pitch after he did that was one hellova breaking pitch.

Re: It's Playoff Time! The 2009 Official Baseball Post-Season Thread

Some interesting notes on the ratings for the series.

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/6693977.html

Game 1 was up slightly over last year ... but, here's what I found interesting:

However (told you), it’s interesting to compare the 19.5 million number for Game 1 with the 19.2 million average for another regional series, between the Angels and Giants, in 2002. Even if the former drops by a million fans, it likely will be considered a triumph. The latter, at the time, was considered a disappointment.
So 19.2 for the Angels/Giants is a dissapointment, 19.5 for the Yankees/Phillies is a triumph??? Of course, the Angels/Giants was pretty much the last GOOD World Series.

This is also just for game 1. Still looking to see about the ratings for the other 3 games.

Re: It's Playoff Time! The 2009 Official Baseball Post-Season Thread

I heard an interesting note on the radio today...a music channel, by he way...the guy said that over the last 50 years at least, the Yankees have only won World Series when there's a Democrat in the While House...

Just off the top of my head...1996, 1998-2000...Bill Clinton

    1977-78 Jimmy Carter

Kennedy in the 60's (they lost the 64 series, didn't they? In any case, LBJ)

And I know the Dodgers won in '59...

    An interesting bit of trivia.

Guess I should have voted for McCain after all.

Hopefully, us Yankee strong-dislikers will be put out of our misery tonight. I admit I'll be watching New Orleans-Atlanta tonight and checking in on the other.

Any hope of justice in this season finally was snuffed out for me last night.

I heard a commercial for a contest this morning. The prize - tickets to a 2009 postseason game.

    They'd better hurry.
