Yeah, yeah, yeah. Congratulations to the Bronx Bummers.

Seriously, they did deserve it.

What a night for Matsui. And five rings now for the "core four"...Jeter, Posada, Rivera, and Pettite.

Brilliant question of the night, from FOX's Ken Rosenthal, to the Yankees Jorge Posada, after game 6.

Jorge....no championship since 2000...how's it feel to win the Series again after all these years?

Gee, a whole nine years without a title. The Dodgers - 21 years and counting. The Angels waited 40-plus years before getting their only one. Red Sox - 86 years. Cubs? Over 100 years and counting.

Nine whole years. How indeed did it feel, to win another title after all those years.

Nice to know that the long national nightmare is over.

For some of you, anyway.

Please note that an off-season "Hot Stove League" thread has been started, in this forum.

Good job Yankees; again, no matter what you say about "the best team money can buy", you still have to go out on the field and win the games.

Congratulations to the New York Yankees who are the best baseball team no matter what anybody says. 27 times World Champions. Go Yankees and let's repeat.

Let's not.

If I have to hear one more time about their interminable nine-year drought....
those poor, poor Yankee fans.

I like those fans who started throwing sensitive documents, and personal files out the windows during the parade yesterday, when the confetti ran out.

Uhh, without shredding them first. Smart.

Poor Barry. If I have to hear one more Yankee hater complaint about the "how long it's been" comment ... Oh wait, I don't care, we got the trophy... Bazinga!

I guess there are three types of baseball fans.

Yankee fans.

Those that wish they were Yankees fans.

Those that wouldn't be Yankee fans, even if you paid them big bucks.

Commenting on that aspect of it has nothing to do with hating...and I don't consider myself to be a "hater" of anything, and don't think I have used the word in any of these threads.

The nine-year thing is about perspective...and so many Yankee fans, and New Yorkers for that matter, who seem to have a lack of it when it comes to the rest of the country.

I enjoy Rick Reilly. Just happens we agree on this one.

Quote:
They're having a parade because the New York Yankees won the title? Why not throw one because a bear ate a salmon? Or a hurricane knocked over a trash can? Hey, the bully just gave the nerd a wedgie! Let's throw a parade!
Look, the Yankees played well. But isn't that what the Yankees are supposed to do? They paid their players almost twice as much as the Phillies team they beat -- $208M to $111M. Just the Yankees starting infield made more than 15 teams this year. Throw them a parade? I don't get it. So what? George Clooney got a girl, Paris Hilton slept in satin sheets last night and Bill Gates went to the bank. Call me when you've got some news.
Oh -- and the next Yankees fan who looks to the heavens and sighs happily, "It's been nine long years!" gets tied to the front of the 4 train and run into a wall. Nine years? Nine years is a cigarette break to most teams in MLB. Chicago Cubs fans are at 101 years and counting. Cleveland Indians' fans: 62. New York/San Francisco Giants: 55. Pittsburgh Pirates: 30. Gee, nine whole years? The Boston Red Sox waited 86 years for theirs. The Chicago White Sox -- 88! There are people in swine flu lines longer than nine years.

No matter what Yankees fans say . . .

Arizona beat them in the series in 2001 when EVERYONE wanted the Yankees to win.

So i still hold onto that. It gets me through the times like these.

Now Barry, we all know that you root for all teams that play against the Yankees, so it's not too far a stretch to assume that you do indeed hate them.

I don't hate them, but I do indeed envy them, being a Cubs fan and only seeing a World Series victory in Chicago by the team on the opposite side of town which I also root for since it represents my town.

I do get tired of living in the second city. Second to New York, and most recently also second to teams on the west coast.

Not me. I had lots of sympathy for what city residents were dealing with. For what they whole country was dealing with. But they had videotape of winning the three previous years if they needed to see a Yankee win.

And I still say it's "strong dislike".

Same here, I was thrilled to see AZ win. One of the best series I've ever seen.

As far as great series go, I'd put that one up with the Atlanta-Minnesota 1991 (10-inning game 7), and 1975 Reds-Red Sox (Fisk HR in game 6)...Of course I loved 2002. The last three innings of game six especially - still give me chills to think about the comeback. Is Scott Spiezio available for a contract?

Re: It's Playoff Time! The 2009 Official Baseball Post-Season Thread

As I've said before, and it's worth repeating, it doesn't really come down just to money. No matter how much a team spends on it's players, they still have to go out and win the games, and win when it counts.

A perfect example of this is right across the East River in Queens. The Mets spent a bundle on their team, and finished pathetically.
