Re: Mark McGwire admits to Steroid Use (during record breaking season)

go play a round of golf and see how you feel the next day. You'll know it takes muscles... trust me

Woods like others (including McGwire) are lured by the quicker recovery over injuries that steroids offer.

Cool Re: Mark McGwire admits to Steroid Use (during record breaking season)

Mark McGwire was a baseball player with what - 19-inch? - biceps and something like 17-inch forearms, was knocking balls out of the park faster than they could pitch 'em to him, and now he is 'coming out' as having used steroids?

Sorry, but this reminds me of a Bette Midler concert that I attended in the early 80's, when Liberace was being sued for 'palimony' by his then chauffeur / lover. Bette walked out on stage with a HUGE blow up of the cover of the National Enquirer with the headline screaming "LIBERACE ACCUSED OF BEING GAY!", and the show stopped; Bette ever-so-slowly lowered the newpaper, with a look of HORROR on her face, and exclaimed
"Liberace? GAY?! WHAT DO THEY TAKE US FOR?!?!"
and the audience errupted in hysterics...

    McGwire? On steroids? WHO knew?!

Next they'll be trying to tell us that Dolly Parton and Joan Rivers have both had 'some work' done...

Shocker of the century! McGwire uses steroids . . . never! My Gawd man!

I have his rookie card and his first year with St. Louis card and when you put them side by side it looks like McGwire had some industrial accident with radiation.

Good to know that the man who took away the HR record from a great player like Roger Marris, did it while on roids. I know they won't but MLB should take McGwire's name off of the record books and ban him from baseball. I mean if betting on baseball is an original sin, then using roids should be too!

History tells us that cheating to win is more forgiveable than cheating to lose.
    Cheaters to win include:
Reggie Jackson moving his hip to deflect a double-play throw away from first.
Gaylord Perry, who doctored baseballs to his advaantage.
George Brett who used too much pine tar on his bat (this is a bit of a stretch, since he probably did not know the limit at the time, but, cheatin' is cheatin.' ).
NY Giants in 1951, stealing signs to tie the Dodgers when they were 12.5 games behind on Aug 12 with 44 games to play (a 0.3% probability at the time, based on "coolstandings" anaylsis).

Cheaters to lose include Joe Jackson and Pete Rose.

^ Stealing signs is a part of baseball.

And I wish some of the Dodgers players would hit .266 in the playoffs like Joe did in the 1919 World Series.

How did Pete Rose cheat to lose? There is no proof from MLB, the Reds organization, press or Rose himself that he manipulated the outcome of games to cover his bets. Did he bet on baseball? Yes. Has he admitted to betting on Reds games? Yes. If you want to ban him for that fine.

This was the most shocking revelation in sports since it was revealed that A-Rod was a slut.

McGwire has given the sport a black eye. His record should be removed.

He was in charge of roster changes. He could load up the team for certain games, but let the team flounder during the games he wasn't betting on. So, not trying as hard is the same as "cheating to lose." You might see it differently, and that is your privilege.
Scenario: Rose didn't bet on a game, but it is close and late. Does he rest his best reliever, because he plans to bet on (and wants the reliever available for) the next game, or does he play him?

    1. Stealing signs by a player with his eyes from second base is a part of baseball. Stealing signs using a telescope and non-player team personnel and electric assistance (telephone, flashlight, etc.) is not.

    2. Um, he hit 0.375 in the 1919 World Series.
