Every time I watch that event I'm amazed that these guys aren't getting killed more often.

He died doing what he was most passionate about. We should all be so lucky.

Apparently, the track's design is SOP with the steel supports not far from the track surface. The investigation showed that he exited the turn really late (high), which caused him to carom off the opposing wall. Padding the steel supports would not have helped one bit in this case. He was going into the turn at ~89 mph, and decelerating so quickly in such a short period of time was going to be catastrophic. RIP.

No way. When I was 12, trading baseball cards was what I was most passionate about. I'm glad I wasn't lucky enough to die doing that. When I turned 16, driving my car was what I was most passionate about. I'm glad I wasn't lucky enough to die doing that. When I was an underclassman in college, playing the keyboard and writing lyrics was what I was most passionate about. I'm glad I wasn't lucky enough to die doing that. Right now, traveling with my wife and kids is what I am the most passionate about. I hope I am lucky enough to survive that.

Until I'm in my 90s, and resting in bed is what I'm most passionate about, I do not want to die doing what I am the most passionate about.
