This summer will be great in terms of sports. First there is the UEFA Euro 2012 and the the Olympic Summer Games in London. I can't wait.

As for some sports news, our own Canuck Clara Hughes, who won medals in both the summer and winter Olympic games, including a bronze in Vancouver in speed skating, has made the cycling team:

I'm conflicted:
The Olympics are one of my favorite events. I love the pageantry, the fact that the majority of athletes are doing this for the love of their respective sports and for their country (excluding USA Basketball of course).
My conflict is that we will be travelling from July 30-Aug 6 riding roller coasters. Yeah, cry me a river. ;)

I think he's referring to the US basketball team being comprised of NBA players; hence, professionals.

Atheletes in most of the larger sports are 'professionals' - they take sponsorships, advertising, etc. Only those looking to protect their college careers yet would abstain from taking the money :)

Lots of interesting little spoilers coming out of the Olympic Stadium about the opening ceremony. Will be interesting to watch on Friday.
