This morning, I brought in my newspaper like I always do, and the sports page headline read Cubs Blow Top. Now, I thought that was pretty clever. The Cubs were in first place, and now, due to not getting the job done again, they are sitting in 2nd, and looking up.

The purpose of this thread is to post your favorite Sports Headlines.

They can be past ones, that you remember or recent ones that you have just read.

There's one sports headline that is the most memorable in my life. It's the headline in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from the day before my 8th Birthday, September 18th, 1990 (since that was a afternoon edition it was also the headline on the front page the next morning)

IT'S ATLANTA!!

The headline announced to the world that Atlanta had just been selected to host the 1996 Olympics.

That was not the only time that headline was used. A year later when the Braves clinched the NL West Division Title, the headline was used again with one of the T's replaced with a tomahawk.

As the Cubs get closer to making the playoffs, I can only wonder how far they will progress. It's fun again, to be a Cubs fan. Some ask me, why I doubted them?

My nespaper is full of headlines asking for the dismissal of Rex Grossman as the Bears Quaterback.

Grossman threw 3 interceptions on Sunday. If the Bears don't make a change, many fear this season will be a disaster.

Everyone knows that the Mayor in Chicago is a Sox fan. He put on the hat, none the less, and declared his support for the North Side Chicago baseball team.

Today's SunTimes also include these headlines.

I know that the Sun-Times and Tribune will be dominated by the Cubs, which should be just fine by the Bears after their performance in Detroit today. Maybe Rex wasn't the problem after all? At least not all of it.

With the future of Joe Torre as Yankee manager in question, the Chicago media is having a field day. The SunTimes headlines today were:

When I first saw this photo, he reminded me of the James Earl Jones character in the movie Field of Dreams. That's Dusty Baker. Now that he has been hired by the Cincinnati Reds, he has decided to tell the media just exactly how he feels. No manager, singlehandedly causes a team to fail. He has a point. If the team was that promising, then why did the Cubs spend a fortune, after he left?

Dusty Baker is a good manaer when it comes to putting a team together, and helping the chemistry of a team build, that sort of thing.

But when it comes to game strategy and management, he is one of the worst I've ever seen. Some of his decisions as manager of the Giants really helped the Angels to win the 2002 World Series, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

He seems like a good man, though, so I wish him success in Cincinnati.

That same opinion has been voiced here in Chicago.

However, Chicago fans are so hungry for a World Series, that they pin all their hopes on a manager. They figure he is our "salvation", and when it doesn't happen, they discard him, and move on to the next. I don't think that it's fair.

Somehow for some reason Chicago just can't seem to get it right. At least not on the North Side of town.
