So how should the Pats be penalized?

So the NFL has determined that the New England Patriots cheated and broke the rules with a video camera fixed on the Jets coaches to get the Defensive signals. Apparently they are not the only other team to complain to the NFL about the Patriots. So how should the Pats be penalized?

The word on the street is that the Pats may be docked some Draft picks. I think this might be the way to go as long as their picks are given to someone else and not eliminated from the draft altogether because that would not be fair to the College players that are eligible to be drafted.

For the rest of the season they should be docked 15 points right from the start of the game.

Number one draft pick goes to the New York Jets.

Give their draft picks to the Bucs.

What about the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers who have also been cheated against?

I think they should revoke all of their Superbowl championships personally!

The Brownies are doing it on merit alone.

That's what i meant. Why give the Jets the first pick in the draft when they might end up having a better record than the Browns do at the end of the season? The first pick in the draft is supposed to be given to either a new team or the team that had the worst record in in the previous season (unless that team trades it away which has and will continue to happen)

I don't think there is anything they have done that couldn't have been done without a camera. It'll happen again with someone else. The Pat's should be fined and that's it and just to appease everyone.

I think the only thing that 'could' be done is a HUGE fine and a few draft picks going away.

It's not like college where you can take away bowl games or scholarships.

I mean, I 'guess' you could make their salary cap lower for a few years.

    Belichick and Patriots are fined!!!

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070914/...fbn_nfl_spying

NEW YORK - New England coach Bill Belichick was fined the NFL maximum of $500,000 Thursday and the Patriots were ordered to pay $250,000 for spying on an opponent's defensive signals.

Commissioner Roger Goodell also ordered the team to give up next year's first-round draft choice if it reaches the playoffs and second- and third-round picks if it doesn't.
Seems kind of light to me. They should lose a first round either way.

Re: So how should the Pats be penalized?

Speaking as someone who would like to see the Pats get destroyed on Sunday night, the general feeling I get is that EVERYONE is constantly looking at each others signals...in baseball as well. The videotaping should not have happened as it is strictly against the rules, but knowing what the offense is going to call is not going to win games when it counts. At best, you only have a few extra seconds to scream directions to the defense. If you KNOW Ladanian Tomlinson is coming right at you, it ain't really going to do you a whole lot of good unless you're 300 pounds and are pretty quick on your feet. Most defenses...GOOD defenses are going to read what's coming anyway unless it's something new. EVERYONE looks at game film. I definitely think the Pats should be spanked, but you'd have to really prove to me that the reason the Jets lost was because the Pats knew what was coming.

Of course, it COULD be that they have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Randy Moss, this Hobbs character, one of the best coaches of this century....blah blah blah. THAT'S why they'll probably win the stupid super bowl this year, although it hurts me to say it. I'll be pulling for the Chargers, as always, but that Patriot offense is just ridiculous this year. If they DO go on to win the Superbowl, it won't be because someone was videotaping the signals.
