My life has been sort of strange lately. For one thing, my radio died on me. I need to get a new one when I go to Target on Saturday. I miss listening to it while I MiceChat.

I am indeed a Sports fans. Go Lakers and Dodgers!
Putting the um in forum. Um...
I have been sitting here thinking about this past baseball season. There was really nothing, on both sides of town, that made me get too excited. The perfect game by White Sox pitcher Buerhle, comes to mind. Other than that nothing.
The radio phone lines are full of callers with all the answers. Fire the GM, the manager, and get rid of most of the players. In other words, let's start over. If Jim Hendry had taken the off season off, would we have faired better this year? Who knows? Because what was done, accomplished little. I am by no way an expert, but this season wasn't even fun to watch. The Cubs, had no "team". The team was disassembled last off season, and they never recovered.
The problem is, there's still almost two months of baseball left, before a World Series champ is crowned. As a Chicago fan, if I watch, I'm watching someone else's team get the glory.
Whining, isn't usually my style, but winning could solve that, if they could only figure out how to do that.

Thank you POISONEDAPPLES!
Sorry Barry, no jumping on the bandwagon of any other team for me. I guess that comes off as sour grapes, and if it is, so be it. I just can't get excited about the playoffs this year, and I guess that I am not a big enough sports fan to watch, just for the love of the game. At least not this year.
Mike Ditka has picked the Packers to win their division over the Bears. He's also not a big fan of the signing of Brett Favre by the Vikings. My sister in law is a Vikings fan, and I haven't talked to her in a while, but she's probably delighted by the signing. Although, I could just hear her calling Favre an "old man".
The biggest story in my town today is the Oprah Show. Oprah has pretty much shut down Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, because she is taping her show there today. More people will be showing up, in the hopes of standing for hours and hours to see her show. "I am Oprah, look at me". No thanks. I'd rather stand at Disneyland and see Murphy. At least that is worthwhile.
I was surprised that my grandson does not have gym anymore in school. It is Sean's 3rd year of high school, and no gym glass. When I went to high school, we had gym every year, and I loved it. For some kids, it's the only exercise they get. For some kids today, the only part of their body that gets any regular exercise is the parts attached to their cell phones, iPods, remote controls, and video controllers.
Now I'm off for a leisurely stroll to the grocery store.
Enjoy your day sports fans, and if you have school aged children, I hope they all have a great day at school. I miss those days.

Well, I must say that does sadden me a bit, since we've been to an Angels game together, and visited the stadium twice during cherished Disneyland time together.
Having said that, I appreciate your sincerity. And no, it does not come off to me as "sour grapes" at all. You're just Barbaraann, being Barbaraann, to borrow a phrase. And that's a pretty fine thing to be in my book.
Are you back in the routine of reading your Sun-Times Daily News yet? What are they saying about the Bears? Their opener is this Sunday.
As for Ditka's prediction, I think the packers will be pretty good too. I kinda hope I'm wrong. But I'm afraid that the end of Brett Favre's career might not be as pretty as he'd like it to be.
Thank you POISONEDAPPLES!
My American League allegiance belongs to the White Sox, and alas, they are out of the playoff hunt, as well as the Cubs. I remember Michael Jordan's brief stint with the Minor League Birmingham Barons. MJ will be inducted into Basketball's Hall of Fame, and my newspaper today had a very nice special section.
Derek Jeter, of the Yankees is about to pass Lou Gehrig's hitting total of 2,721 hits. I am always saddened when a Gehrig record is broken. I remember when Cal Ripken broke the consecutive games played record. A sad day for me, although I applaud the types of players all these ballplayers were/are.
We are but a few days away from the beginning of the football season, and the success of the Bears remains to be seen. The Hype, in Chicago, of course is over the top. It's a Bears town in the fall, except when the Cubs are trying to finally make it to a World Series.
Chicago is getting close to finding out whether or not they will host the Olympics in 2016. I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I like the fact that Chicago will be showcased around the World. However, will it be at the inconvenience, and expense of our citizens?
There are days when I don't read my morning paper until the evening. I do, still read it back to front, though.

Nothing like opening up the "Jay Cutler era" in prime time. The Bears and Packers, featured on the Sunday night NBC game.
While I do have pigskin interest...my UCLA Bruins are at Tennessee tomorrow, and the USC-Ohip State game is filling my local sports pages (which we read here from front to back)...with the Dodgers and Angels both first, baseball is uppermost on my mind.
Thank you POISONEDAPPLES!
I am watching the end of the Bears game and listening to the radio sound. My radio usually has a clear reception. However, today I have a lot of static. Right now the Bears are winning by a score of 25 to 19. The Seahawks are driving for a score. A first down was just made by the Seahawks with less than a minute to play.
I love the color lime green, but I never thought that I would see professional male athletes wearing that color. Especially not football players.
Does the last couple minutes of a football team make you sit on the edge of your seat, or bite your nails?
The Seahawks must get a touchdown, a field goal won't help.
The Bears have gotten the ball back, and it appears the Bears will win another close one.
Have a nice Sunday, sports fans.

Now that the bid for the Olympics has failed, perhaps Chicago can get back to normal. This loss will be analyzed for a very long time. Some people will want to try again. Many think that it is a mistake.
I watched the final announcement, and the people of Rio were very happy. I wish them a great games.

The sale of the Chicago Cubs has finally been approved by Major League baseball. WGN has been announcing for quite some time that the team will be owned by Tom Ricketts and his family. That very thing was announced officially on Tuesday.
Hopefully, it will make a difference.

How do you feel about it?
Are you sad that Chicago didn't get the Games?
And there's word that Rush Limbaugh is part of a new group trying to buy the St. Louis Rams. Forbes magazine estimates the Rams to be worth $900 million. They could be procured for the bargain price of $800 million, reports say, because of the sour economy.
Thank you POISONEDAPPLES!
I will just wait and see what happens when the new owners take charge. I remember when the Tribune company first took over the Cubs. A lot of good things happened. The Cubs actually filled up their park, and made it to the playoffs a few times. For this Cubs fan, a World Series appearance would be nice. That would be my measure of success.
As far as the Olympics are concerned. I didn't actually support the bid. Am I disappointed? More like embarassed for my town, which it seems always has to play "good sport" when we lose. I am getting tired of being a "good sport".

Hockey has been resurrected in the city of Chicago. The other night I watched the Blackhawks home opener, and it was spectacular. Veteran Blackhawks were invited to skate on the ice, in full uniform, and seeing Hull, Mikita, Savard, and Esposito was thrilling.
The Cubs have filed for bankruptcy. This is the last step, before the new owners take control of the team.
I can't imagine running for over 2 hours, the way the Chicago Marathoners did on Sunday. I applaud those who are fit enough to participate in this event.
Monday night is football night. I always enjoy listening to the television commentators discussing the matchups, even if I don't understand it all. Mike Ditka is still very popular here in this city, and it's good to see him and hear his opinions.
Choose your sports tonite, sports fans.

The first round of the baseball playoffs appear to be soon to wrap up, so I'll be watching the Jets and Dolphins as well. Another good test for the Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez.
