I knew a man named David Courtney. He was a colleague of mine in the radio business, but he also was the public address voice for the Angels, the LA Clippers, and the Los Angeles Kings.

As a matter of fact he worked with the Kings in one way or another for 35 years, the last 22 as their P.A. man. Last year, he finally got to see them win the Cup. I know that he anxiously awaited opening night of this season, with the ring ceremony and the raising of the championship of banner. The stupid lockout deprived him, and other Kings fans, of that.

David Courtney passed away ten days ago, at the age of 55, rocking the LA sports and radio world.

Whenever the NHL does get back on the ice, it wont be the same without him at Staples Center.

I know I could probably look it up and I will just busy right now but why is NHL not playing? is it a contract thing? are players on strike?

Forgive my ignorance. I'm new to the Hockey genre...

Yup. Contract stuff. I'm not clear on the details, but that's the reason.

Technically, it is a lockout...which means management, as opposed to a players strike. They are arguing over a collective bargaining agreement, and how much players should get from the revenue pie. They had a lockout that cancelled the entire 2004-05 season and playoffs, and the players felt like they got taken to the cleaners. Hard to sympathize right now with anyone making a very good living playing hockey. It should also be pointed out that Donald Fehr, the head of the baseball players union during the strike of 94, is now head of the NHLPA. As always, people like fans, and my late friend David, who screwed.

Just thought I would share this:

The teddy bear toss at the Ontario Reign game last night so much fun!

But they lost But still it was a great experience to toss stuff animals onto the ice. The fans were great! And it was fun all around!

I'm off to another game today at 3pm.

That is really cool Clara. Lots of kids will have a better Christmas thanks to the fans. It looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing. It is really cool how you and your son have bonded over your love of hockey.

Actually, after posting my initial question, I did some research on it online and yeah, that is kinda what it boils down to.

    Really sucks for the fans.

Speaking of hockey, here is the afghan that I made for my grandson's girlfriend. She is a big fan of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Well football is over. The Bears might have beat the Lions today, but Minnesota beat the Pack, and that put an end to the Bears season. Now I could care less about the Super Bowl. I doubt I'll even concern myself with whose winning as I enjoy the big Meet being planned for MiceChatters on February the 3rd.

Nobody voted into the Hall of Fame this year. Can't say I'm surprised.

Sammy gave the fans in Chicago a lot to cheer about, but looking back on it, we should have known it was too good to be true. He went from hero to zero, when he walked out on the team.

Let me just say, that I have a niece whose name is Raven. I guess you know her favorite football team, and who is sitting on the ege of her seat about now.
