My guess - something like an orca duo. Or something "First Nations-y".
Hoping it will be an animal(s). Animals that are found in BC include:
Spirit Bear - a.k.a. Kermode Bear - They are found on the central coast of BC. It's neaither an albino or polar bear, but a white black bear. Here's an article on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kermode_bear
Vancouver Island Marmot - an endangered species
Cougar
Sea Otter
Moose
Elk
Orca
Salmon
Osprey
Eagle
Cariboo
Beaver
Coyote
Wolf
Grizzly Bear
Black Bear
Badger
Big Horn Sheep
Mountain Goats
I've seen all these out in the wild except for the Spirit Bear and the Vancouver Island Marmot.
Don't forget the elusive Naiveus Environmentalus, otherwise known as Tre Arrow. He'd be a great Olympic mascot! He even knows a ton about running and torches! He's perfect!
Who Cares! It will be dumb and stupid like the previous one and the one from Atlanta. Not to mention to dumb Arizona Super Bowl Mascot "spike". DUMB!!!! How about we focus on the athletics?!
The above is not a slam against any member but merely the idea of mascots for the sporting events themselves.
While I agree the Olympics should focus on athletics, it's also a money making machine, you can't deny that. It's not cheap hosting an Olympics, and if the government of a nation isn't going to fund them, you have to get the money somehow! Mascots and their products are one way of doing that.
Plus, mascots bring the Games to the children of the world. They see the mascots, ask what they are, and then focus on the sports and then get into the Games that way, or at least that's the gist of them.
Whether a mascot in and of themselves is dumb or not is a personal choice. But the purpose of them is important to "selling" the Games to the younger generation.
I was watching our Global BC news today and they hinted that the mascot may be a Kermode Bear, a.k.a. Spirit Bear. They showed a story where a little Spirit Bear cub was rescued up near Smithers and they are rehabilitating him in Terrace. They said that they want to release him back in the wild when he gets a little bigger, probably in the early summer. Cute little bear, except that his fur wasn't white because it was dirty. He looked more like a brown bear. The reporter hinted that the Spirit Bear may be a mascot for the Olympics.

The mascots were revealed today. Check them out on the Vanoc website:

A lot of the comments about them on other message boards are negative. For those of you living in LA, you guys probably had the best mascot so far; Sam the Eagle. Why was he good? He was designed by Disney.

There's some interactive stuff here for the Mascots, games, etc:

They remind me of the freaky Beijing mascots, especially the black and white thing. I do love that sasquatch is an Olympic mascot now though![]()
I haven't been impressed with many mascots recently. I liked Sydneys but of late, they've been the only one's I've really liked.
