Thanks, Eagleman.

Preston wrote most if this and the following chapters, so the props for research fittingly should go to him.

Thanks Steve. I love the story. While the colors might not be exactly correct, I love the look of the ship with the brighter colors. Even comparing the Lady Washington, the Columbia really stands out with nicer colors.

Re: 10/23: The Columbia Story, Pt. IV

I just found a bit more about the Columbia's figurehead. I've written the following, and Al's inserted it into the article. But since most folks may not go back and read the old articles, I'm posting it here as well. I think it's a cool little tidbit.

Quote:
Who sculpted Disneyland's figurehead? Disney historian Michael Broggie recently posed the question to Blaine Gibson (famous for sculpting many Disneyland icons, from pirates to presidents). "Yes, Blaine did sculpt the Columbia figurehead. He did the head, torso and arms and another sculptor did the dress. (Blaine couldn't recall his name.) It was Walt who decided that the original Columbia figurehead was "ugly" and he wanted an attractive woman on his ship! He personally asked Blaine to do it."
