Blu-Ray Players starting to come down in price?!?!

Only this one as far as I can tell, but I'd imagine before the Holiday's we'll be seeing quite a few $200 players.

Amazon.com: Sony BDP-S300 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player: Electronics

It's the $29.99 ($24.99on sale) BluRay DVD price, that's the killer! Where's $19.99 ($14.99on sale) standard?

Interesting. But I'll stick with the upconverting DVD player & home theatre system I got last Black Friday for now.

Re: Blu-Ray Players starting to come down in price?!?!

Old thread I know... how many of you have Blu-Ray players?

What kind do you have?
How much was it?
Is it everything you hoped it would be and more?
What brand have you heard has the best quality?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm in the market... as it were.

Ditto. I can live with an expensive player. But expensive DVDs? I don't think so. Oh, looky here, Terminator 2 on standard DVD for $4.99- I think I'll pass on Blu-Ray for the moment.

Certain movies definitely blow away any other option. PoC:AWE on Blu-Ray on a giant tv looks unlike anything else I have ever seen come out of a television. It is freaking amazing.

Re: Blu-Ray Players starting to come down in price?!?!

The deals are starting to come around. I'm finding new good movies on sale for $19.99 on a regular basis now. Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda are two that were on sale last week. Wall-E Blu-Ray 3 disc for $29.99 was so good, I was never able to find a copy in any store.

Oh i've posted in that one. But my questions are more about the price, which this thread is more focused on.

Thanks for the responses. Why is the PS3 the best version of bluray? I know that the upper executives at my work get PS3's instead of dvd players now... only because of bluray!

I would hold off on a blue ray player. I don't think the format is going to last.

Re: Blu-Ray Players starting to come down in price?!?!

From what I understand regarding the PS3:

You have wireless internet capabilities. Which means all of the Blu-Ray profile updates (1.0, 1.1, 2.0, etc) can be done easily. The other players only have Ethernet and you'd have to have a connection near your TV in order to get the updates.

From what I understand, many of the players, which probably means the ones that are going to be the cheapest this week, don't have the capability to upgrade to 2.0, etc ... which means you can't get all of the content that you would want with a Blu Ray.

John knows more about that than I do though.

Re: Blu-Ray Players starting to come down in price?!?!

blue ray is a format that was rushed to market before all the specs we nailed down, I don't think we should be the guinea pigs at $300 a player and $30 a movie before they settle on a 'final' firmware.

and yes all these cheap players are mainly 1.0, so many of the newer discs may not even play on them.
