Question Can I burn files with this?

Ok.... I want to burn some files to a CD-ROM. The drive I have says: DVD /ROM (then on the other side) Compact Disk.

Can I burn files using that drive? And would I just drag from one folder to the the drive? TY

"DVD ROM" usually means No at least for DVD. ROM is Read Only. As far as CD's? Need more info to answer that question.

What computer/OS? What are the CD device specifications?

    You'd need a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R or DVD-RW.

Do you have the handbook that comes with the laptop?

Click on My Computer and then look at whatever drive letter your CDROM is. It usually says.

It's not a laptop. It's my desktop at work so no handbook! The drives are a little screwy because of networking and such, but I'll check it out

I would suggest that you drop a blank CD into the drive and see what comes up. If it's a newer machine the odds are good that you can burn.

CD or DVD drives usually are not affected by networks. Their drive letters are unique to your machine...

Also, placing a blank CD in there may not bring anything up if the blank cd is not associated with a program or has been disabled in your Network Policies.

Is there CD burning software installed? Nero? Roxio?

    I don't know of a DVD player that doesn't play CD's - or A DVD burner that doesn't burn CD's.

Never heard of a DVD only...

I'm with Sambo on this one, I have never hear of a player / burner doing that.

    Ahhh. Now I get it.

Thumb drive - yup. Good choice.

Unless you want to spring for an external burner with USB interface...

If you have a large enough Ipod, plug that puppy into the USB on your computer an use it as a portable HD. I've done this more than once to take work-files home before I had a work laptop.

Don't download the songs into your Ipod, just drag the file-folders into it.
