What is the best 3D computer animation program on the market right now?

Hey there. I am bored of created 2d animated cartoons with Flash 5.0. Do any of you know any good 3d animation programs for sale in the markets these days? plus do you know of any that are compatible with a brand new dell desktop 2400? I would love to animate my characters in 3D. Please do answer or PM me. Thanks.

Maya is one of the top programs. It's very expensive to buy, however there is a fully functional demo available for free called the Personal Learning Edition that has no expiration date. The catch is, it puts a large watermark across its windows and any renderings you create that say it's not for commercial use. Even so, Maya provides an absolute wealth of training materials online so that a person can actually spend all the time they want learning to master the program before ever actually having to buy it.

Maya is used extensively in movies in such things as Lord of the Rings (Gollum, as one great example), The Matrix, and many others. Very high quality stuff.

That Maya stuff looks really cool. But is their anything available for a few hundred bucks or lower? Perhaps a CDROM animation program made by Macromedia? I would get the Maya stuff, but that is $1300 to many for me. Thanks for the link though mick.

Take a look at this program... it's called Animation Master and for it's price of $299.00 it appears to do some amazing stuff. I've never used it, but I know someone who did and he raved about it.

    Software info is here: http://www.hash.com/products/am.asp

If you want nice free one, there's anim8or. It's not the best, but if you just want a program for fun (and don't want to pay high prices) this is a good choice.

Ulead makes a decent entry level 3d animation program. Not nearly as sophisticated as Maya or 3d Studio Max, but great if your just starting out.
