    Video iPod is Official!

    http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=1206816

Sweeet! Can't wait to see it, although I probably won't buy one - don't watch enough TV to justify the cost of getting one.

    Anyone planning on getting one?

Time for the world's best music player to take the stage for another encore. In 30GB and 60GB(1) models that hold up to 15,000(2) songs, full-color album art and up to 25,000 photos(3), the new iPod makes the most of your music and more. Yeah, you've heard that tune before. Only now, you can watch it, too. With support for up to 150 hours(4) of video and a 2.5-inch color display, the new iPod lets you take music videos and TV shows on the road.

That is very exciting- now I wish I had waited- I paid $500 bucks for the 40gb photo ipod not even a year ago. They should have a trade in program, lol. Or maybe I will just put my photo ipod on ebay and pick this one up instead. Its quite a bargain, if you ask me.

On second thought, I think I will wait to upgrade. At the rate they are releasing new technology, I'm sure I would regret the purchase this time next year.

    Well done apple!

This, to me, is almost more exciting news than the new iPod! Wow. I can't imagine Jobs and Eisner getting on the same stage with each other and both walking off alive. To see Jobs and Iger up there is HUGE! I certainly hope this means the Disney/Pixar relationship is patched up or at least on the way to getting patched up.

    Re: Video iPod is Official!

I wonder what Sony will do to Counter the Video Ipod with its PSP...

    PSP pros...
    • Plays Games, Movies, MP3's, can view pictures and surfs the net
    • Movies can be bought on UMD or made by the user
    • 4.3inch LCD screen with 480 x 272 resolution

    PSP cons
    • Battery life is short when watching UMD movies
    • Not a dedicated music player, not very many music settings
    • No hard drive, and Memory Sticks are expensive

    Ipod Video pros
    • Plays music, movies, view pictures
    • Hard drive
    • Dedicated music player with many customizable options

    Ipod Video cons
    • 2.5 inch screen
    • Can't buy pre-recorded videos

I don't think people care what Sony does or says. They tried to counter the original iPod with the iPod Walkman and got their collective butts handed to them on a silver platter.

BTW, anyone else notice that Apple also released iTunes 6? I wonder if that's the 6 being referenced in the Micechat Riddle thread. Hmmmm....

Easy, Sony will join the group of those whinning about how iTMS downloads only work on Apple products, just like Creative and numerous other companies have done.

    Is it flash-based?

    EDIT: Found the answer:

"Jobs says the 60GB iPod has two drive platters."

    Re: Video iPod is Official!

I started another thread with this last night, but here it goes again:

    I predict...

Video Podcasting/Blogging will explode with the release of the Video iPod and become a powerful new form of media worldwide.

I think it (Video Podcasting/Blogging) will give television a run for its money as people start to make the natural progression from (phony) reality shows to actual shows about reality made by real people videocasting from wherever they are in the world. Like cable access on steroids and turned into Ultraman.

A new era of journalism will arrive as news and information will be exchanged directly between people without any sort of corporate or governmental filter, establishing a historical media and potentially social revolution.

Video Podcasting/Blogging will spawn a much needed alternative to the advertisement and propaganda blitz that television has become, introducing new shows and genres of every imaginable kind for all ages, cultures, nationalites, etc. We will see new celebrities emerge from the medium.

The whole thing will be huge and the Video iPod will be the catalyst to set it in motion.

    Re: Video iPod is Official!

I have an Ipod, and I really don't think it's as "huge" as everyone makes it out to be...

It's simplistic, that's what appeals to the consumer. The Ipod itself is smooth, sleak, and very easy to navigate. The software is a breeze and each update makes the Ipod better and better. But the only reason it's as huge as it is is because of the fashion acc. that the media has made it out to be...

Is that a bad thing? Not at all, but I'd much rather watch video on my widescreen double sized PSP than an Ipod...
