Question music recording software for PC

hey everyone! so, the place i currently work at gives us macs, which has been awesome because i can play around on garageband to my hearts content. however, i wont be at this job forever and i have a PC at home.

are there comparable programs i can buy for my pc? something fairly easy, ill mostly be recording vocal tracks of my own and other instruments. and not too expensive.....tall order, i know.

any help or insight would be great!

    thanks!

On the free end you can get Audacity, but if you want something more powerful and don't mind paying you can try Adobe Audition...

    Thank you!

hmmm, how is the quality of audacity? i can only really gauge it compared to garageband. are there any products more in the middle of those two prices? 350 is a little steep.

I use Audacity and although not as fine as Pro Tools - It is very good quality. The quality per dollar factor for Audacity is vastly superior.

awesome! i downloaded audacity last night and i think ill be able to do some interesting stuff when i get it all figured out. sadly, the mic on my PC is sad news compared to my mac, so i think i will have to get an external mic...which will actually make it super fun, no?

    thanks for your input!!!
