    Nikon D3000

    Hi everyone,
I've been looking into cameras to take on travel trips, and I came across the Nikon D3000. It looks like it has good reviews, but I wanted to see if anyone else knew anything about it? Thoughts? Or other suggestions?

    Thanks!

Any suggestions besides the Nikon D3000?

I really want to get a Canon Rebel XS. I've heard from many people that it's a good camera. Now if I can only find it for a reasonable price.

    Re: Nikon D3000

A few friends of mine have the model the D3000 replaced, the D40. And they LOVE it. One of my mom's friends has the next model up, the D5000, which she also loves.

Whenever I can afford an SLR, I'm going for the Nikon D3000 if they still make it at that point.

Thanks for your responses! The Nikon D3000 looked like a nice camera too...I saw it at Best Buy. And they were sold out, so that's a good sign.

Haven't looked at the D3000, but I've got a D5000 and it's great. I've heard that I'm part of a large crowd of people who really like the Nikon menuing, over other brands. Nikon really did it right.

Good luck getting your camera! Photography really is a lot of fun.

I own the D3000 and I can tell you that its an excellent camera for people new to the SLR world (which I was). It gives you a lot of creative control but be careful because its not the camera that gets you, its the lens you'll want to buy after you get it.

However, I will say that aimsters suggestions for the next series up comes with video, where the D3000 does not have that. If the money isn't an issue, I'd get the next step up for more bells and whistles.

Thank you! I went back to Costco again and looked at the D90...it's huge, but looks like a really great camera. I'll check out the D5000 as well.

Thank you...I know the D90 has video options and the one from Costco comes with two separate lenses.

    The site says:
    Features and Benefits:

    • Effective Pixels: 12.3-megapixel DX-Format CMOS Sensor
    • LCD Monitor: 3.0
      " 920,000 dot color monitor

Top Shooting Rate: Up to 4.5 frames per second
    Focus Area/Sensors: 11 focus points (including 1 cross-type sensor)
ISO Sensitivity: ISO 200 to 3200 in steps of 1/3 EV, 1/2 EV, 1 EV
AF Area Mode: Single Area AF, Dynamic Area AF, Auto Area AF
Exposure Metering System: 420-Pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering II
Retouch Menu: Trim, D-Lighting, Color Balance, Image Overlay, Filter Effects, Monochrome, NEF (RAW) Processing, Quick Retouch, Straighten, Distortion Control

Power Source: EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery
Images Per Battery Charge: Up to 850 (CIPA Measurement Standards)
    Weight: Approx. 1.4 lbs.
    Storage Media: SD/SDHC

    Accessories:

    • Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body
    • 18-55mm VR Zoom-NIKKOR Lens
    • 70-300mm VR Zoom-NIKKOR Lens
    • Versatile System Carrying Case
    • 4GB SD Memory Card
    • Lithium-ion Rechargeable Battery
    • Quick Charger
    • Audio/Video Cable
    • USB Cable
    • Strap
    • PictureProject CD-Rom

So that's quite a few options with it. It seems like a lot of people like your camera...Costco has the D5000, but not the D3000.

By the way, do you use the D3000 to take pictures like the one in your siggy?
