Whenever an app wants new privileges on an Android phone, you have to update it manually and approve the new permissions. On the latest version of the Facebook app, they now want access to my SMS and MMS messages.
What possible reason could Facebook have for needing access to my SMS and MMS messages? It's already bad enough that they want to read the contacts on my phone, but I allow that so that my contact list is updated with the Facebook information. Reading my text and picture messages too? To quote Butters from Southpark "Um, I'll choose decline."
I'm sure it's the same for the IOS version too, I just don't think they have to approve privileges.
