Wanna run XP on your Intel Mac? Apple, yes Apple, has the software to do it!

Apple Computer Inc. unveiled software Wednesday to help owners of its new Intel-based Macs run Microsoft Corp.'s rival Windows XP operating system, despite the computer maker's insistence it won't assist such efforts.
Apple's new "Boot Camp" software, a "beta" test version available as a free download, lets computer users with a Windows XP installation disk load that system on the Mac.
Apple shares rose more than 6 percent in morning trading.

I never saw this coming. Anyone else aware of this?

Oops! Can someone move this to Tech Lounge, please?

I know why they did this. Mainly, because the community JUST did this. (And to sell 10.5 when it comes out!)

Exactly! If it's going to happen anyway, why not be in control of it and do it the way you want.
I also imagine they did it to help hardware sales...
"Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Idiot Consumer, you can run your current XP programs on your Mac!"

Heh, I'll guarantee you won't be playing Call of Duty 2 or Battlefield 2 on it, tho. :)

Why? Because of slowness? Or something else? :???:

Hey, it's using standard hardware now. That X1600 looks quite nice for gaming. All we need are some usable drivers.

You can get a x1600 pro for 110 bucks on newegg. It is a budget card. I am building a 550 dollar pc with that in it.
When they start releasing nVidia 7900 GTX 512mb and ATi X1900 XTX 512mb for apple it will be high end. They also need to get on the SLi and Crossfire wagon. They even have quad SLi which uses 4 video cards for the best of the best PC's.
The hardware is just way superior at the moment for PC's, especially graphics cards.
