How do you create a font file?

If I wanted to design my own font, how would I do it, such that it could actually be installed?

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

You will need a font design program like "Fontographer" or "FontLab Studio" both by FontLab. I don't know how much they cost, but they have programs for both PC and Mac.

    It's Donateware.

An alternative is the Fontifier. With that, you just have to make the font by hand (ie, pencil & paper).
