    Microsoft Office 2007 - Reviews

I'm trying to figure out if I need Microsoft Office 2007 or if I should wait. The main reason for upgrading would be for additional features or easier usability for my employees. However, if the program doesn't really offer enough new features or user enhancements to justify the price, I'd rather wait a while.

Have you used Office 2007? If so, what do you think?

What do you mean by "Voice Commands"? Is it voice controlled?

I'll see if I can throw up a review a little later this evening. I have been using it for a while and I like it.

We'll probably end up getting it at some point this year. My boss likes our computers having the absolute latest software all the time.

There are advantages for using it in an enterprise, not so sure there's any benefit as a home user, though I guess it may look prettier depending on your sense of aesthetics.

Re: Microsoft Office 2007 - Reviews

I've run several trials with Office 2007.

Overall the experience has not been positive. The new ribbon bar professes to be more intuitive and perhaps it is but it's not as easy to use as something you already know. Don't expect to just drop this on users desks and let them figure it out. You will need plenty of training for everyone and guess what? After all that training people will be able to, gasp!, do what they were doing before the upgrade.

Do your users REALLY need any new functionality? What can't the current version of word, excel, etc.. do for you?

In addition to that there are a lot of weird changes like an entirely new default font. You can Google for more formal reviews but unless your users are up to some fairly offbeat cutting edge hi-jinks using office I just can't see any reason to change at this point.

Oh and of course it "runs best" with Vista so unless you are also planning to make that change it's one more reason to hold off.

That said, there are some things I like about it. Creating tables with the drag-to-size feature is cool as is some of the context sensitive features. Oh but then again that was something that gave some of our less technical users fits. Menus that change wile you work. They tend to like things to be in the same place and having items pop in and out as they worked was disconcerting for them.
