Need wireless internet/router help!

Hey everyone, I've got a wireless adapter in my laptop, and whenever i start up my computer to connect, It 'crashes' the modem and i get a 'connection has no connectivity' message. It makes my roomies lose internet..now it connects via mcafee but not with the windows connection thing. I have to shut off the modem and router and turn them back on again for the windows connection to work.

I've tried ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew and that fixed it for awhile, but now it doesn't help.

Any ideas on what is wrong? I've also updated my wireless card's drivers. This is driving me and my roomies nuts! I think its their modem and/or router, as I don't have this problem anywhere else I go, but they don't have any problems

Can you provide more details:

What kind of wireless adapter do you use?

What kind of wireless adapters are your roommates using?

What kind of wireless router?

What version of Windows?

What do you mean by connecting with McAfee?

Are you sure the modem is crashing? Could it be that it is just the wireless router?

Does it matter if other users are connected when you try to connect?
