External Hard Drive - File Recovery??

My external hard drive is having some serious issues - it now says that I need to reformat the drive - I don't know what happened.

I have all my pictures, files, everything on it - I do have some things backed up on discs, but not all of it.

Does anyone know how to recover all of this?? All I got from the tech support was a number for a file recovery service that wants to charge me over $400.00 and up.

I'm just devastated to loose all of this. I would appreciate any help.

Re: External Hard Drive - File Recovery??

You must have space to store the data from the bad hard disk. It can be another external or does your internal have the space?

I personally have had good luck with File Scavenger by Que Tek

good luck

Re: External Hard Drive - File Recovery??

I did faced the similar situation before was not able to access the hard drive. Whenever I tried to access the external drive it says "drive not formatted want to format". To recover the data from my inaccessible hard drive I tried Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software a file and partition recovery utility. It helped me and I was able to recover almost 100% of my data.
You can try the software by downloading the demo from: http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm
If you are able to see the preview of your recovered data through demo then you can get the full version to save it.

Hope this utility will also help you out.

Best of Luck.
