Look for it on BitTorrent. I'm sure there are many trackers.

Games are hit-and-miss. That's why I dual-boot. WoW works great, as does Sims 2, however, most of my 1998-1999 games don't work due to it's half implication of DirectX.

Is it true that Vista dosn't allow for direct saving to the Computer, only to Documents? I can see that as a problem...

Here's the website I'm a part of (I designed the theme) that deals with Vista and the like - http://www.msbetas.org/

    Hey Hastin,

When you installed the Beta, did it do an upgrade or did it do a complete fresh install?

Reason I ask is that I'd like to keep all my docs and such where they are, and a fresh install will screw that up.

I'm not a huge windows expert like some people, I've always made it a rule of thumb to back up all my work on DVD or iPod, then do a fresh install, but that's just me.

    I have to wonder

how much worse is the spyware this time?

or do they save the spyware for the final version

I've read some pretty terrible stuff on the next longhorns spyware tactics

I'll probably move from Linux now best to go with something that doesn't assume I'm a criminal

    Yawn.

You're participating on a forum software with more validy checks then any Microsoft product will ever have.

Generally, Vista will have 3 times it 'phones home' to check for validity. Activation (this will never change), when checking for updates, and for error-reporting (which [at least in Beta 1] you can't turn off, however generally most crashes are good to report). Most use a hardware ID hash, which doesn't report what hardware you have, just the hash.

The problem is today, 1 in 3 computers is running an illegal copy of Windows. That's a huge number of people too lazy (or cheap) to spend the $100, or buy a new computer (i've seen $200 computers after rebates now) with it pre-installed.
