Thinking of getting a new laptop

Dear all,

I figured I'd send this out to all of your techheads and geeksters about some things I've been pondering as of late. I'm getting a smidge more of a return this year on my taxes and I thought, well, it's time to get a laptop.

Wait, I know, I already have one. But it's my gaming laptop--huge screen, mega hardware, bulky and waaaaay sleek. Love the machine.

But it's not what I need to run to the coffeehouse, ya know? I was thinking small, way small, and super cheap. Halfway decent, tho.

I've done my searches. No, the EEE with Linux is not cutting it for me, but would be ideal if it ran Windows! Here's my criteria.

*) Not an Apple/Mac. Sticking with what I know.

*) smaller in size (for once, size doesn't matter!)

*) wifi enabled. When I'm on the road, I pull over whereever I can

But otherwise, I'm open. I use the laptop for spot-research when I'm doing lesson plans and creative writing. As many of you know, I am addicted to my Palm and use that right now, so I'm in no hurry.

Now I have my home PC (media center from Dell with Windows XP) and my Palm. If I were to get said laptops, is there a way to correleate all three? Is that even possible? Not so much for processing pictures...I'll leave that to the home computer. But I do use my Palm and would want to make sure all three were synced. I'm not sure if that's possible, tho.

Does any of this make sense?

Peace!
Roo

Re: Thinking of getting a new laptop

I like my Sony Vaio laptop. It weighs about 6lbs. Since Vista is a memory hog, I upgraded the RAM to 2GB and noticed an improvement. The BF got it for me on sale for $550 at Best Buy last month (it's regularly $700).... he took the Acer he got me for my birthday last summer as he needed something light and small since he travels for work often.
