    Question about Microsofts Zotog virus

Okay...I know the zotog virus is pretty serious and is only affecting businesses and the laptops that connect into the businesses computers that are infected. But I wanted to know if the Zotog, or any other virus, can attack my home computer. It is brand new, runs windows XP, I have no internet or email connections on it, and I do not put files on my computer that comes from other computers. So can I still get viruses or no?

Re: Question about Microsofts Zotog virus

No. Zotog is a 'virus' that only affect Windows 2000 machines, that don't have the latest updates installed.

If you're at all worried, make sure you have a good virus scanner installed, a good spyware scanner installed, and you keep Windows up-to-date by turning on Automatic Updates.

Thanks for answering my question monorail man.

Can my computers only get viruses through the internet, email and other infected files that come from Floppy & Zip disks, etc?

Well, to get the virus, you must be connected to some network (be it an internet network or local network). Virii can be caught by reading email attachments, opening emails, or just plainly being on the internet (the hacker can find a security hole in your system). If another computer on your local network connects to the internet, you too can get the virus. Although I suppose you could get a virus from a floppy or zip, it's extremely unlikely.

Best preventions are firewalls, antivirus software, and constantly checking for updates and patches.

Yes, that is the only way a computer can get a virus. They cannot infect themselves. They have to be provoked.

I tried to ask my Computer teacher that question too but he was hard to understand due to his thick japanese accent and his rambling on.
