Any band geeks out there?

If you're out there, please put your name, age, your instrument, and anything interesting about yourself or your band or whatever! Orchestra (Orch) dorks are welcome to post as well!

Name: Matt

Age: 16

Instrument: Clarinet

Fact: Our marching band played at Barack Obama's Inaugural parade, we've also gone to Rome, Carnegie Hall, and played in parades down Main Street in Disneyland and in California Adventure of course!

Ex twinkie, here.

Age: 19

Instruments: Drumline, Baby!

Fact: We came really close to doing the Rose Parade my senior year, but it fell through because someone pissed off somebody else or something I don't really remember.

Junior year was my favorite show.... this one was just epic at Diamondbacks Stadium in Pheonix:

Senior year, the drumline was at it's best (our drum instructor was in the Blue Devils)

Aaaahhhh, memories......

Re: Any band geeks out there?

Name: Bailey
Age: 28
Instument: Percussionist (not to be confused with drummer - thats just ONE part of it)

Pride of Taylor County (Florida).

Fun Facts:

*the Pride of Taylor County Marching Band went to the State football championship my junior year (I think the football team went too....not really sure though)

*Percussionists stand in the back during concert band, and don't nessisarily have to wear pants.

*The busiest time for our stadium's concession stand was right AFTER half-time. People used that time when all the football players where on the field (doing something or other...."football", I guess) to go use the bathroom, get some nachos and recover from our bands awesomness.

*my band band director killed a 'possum using an umbrella in the band room

*"this one time, at band camp....."

*the triangle has two distinct tones: German, and French.

*Neff's rule of general Percussion: any item dropped during a concert or performance WILL (no matter how far away it is dropped) land on a drum or a cymbal.

and finally......

*I did a paper on a condition known as "drummers syndrome" which many percussionists suffer from. The condition causes afflicted people to drum on ANY surface with any available object (or no object) almost reflexivly, and often constantly. This usually has the affect of driving anyone around him or her BONKERS.

Age: 18

Instrument: Clarinet, HOLLA

I unfortunately have no fun facts about the school bands that I've played for over the years (3 in total) but I had the time of my life making music with my fellow classmates and friends. Some of the best times of my life sitting in the music room really playing a piece of music and being so moved by it.
