Anyone taking driving lessons yet?

I just started at the AAA. But this morning I got my permit, FINALLY!!! I just took the car out with my dad. It is a lot harder than it looks. I've never seen my dad grab onto the door handle and ask to go back home. But I didn't think I did that bad of a job, I made some short stops and rolling stops but come on this was my first time ever in the drivers seat. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else in this forum is driving yet. Any advice on the DMV in car driving test that I'll have to take in 6 months? This is my first post(I think) in this forum, so a lot of firsts for me today. I think I'm going to DL for a celebration

I actually got my permit in April of '06. I am starting my behind-the-wheel lessons for the license in about 2 weeks. Driving is something that comes easily to me, i only have 2 flaws, merging and switching lanes

When i first began driving my mum would yelp and grab the 'Oh Sh**' handles that are on the roof of the car. Even brace herself on the dash, which is ridiculous. But anyways i am a better driver thanks to my amount of experience (need 40 hours to take behind-the-wheel) It took me a while to rack up the 40 hours because my mum is always working (dad isn't around) but fortunately, my friends drive and i get to go places with them

Don't get nervous. If you don't pass the behind the wheel the first time, don't get discouraged either. I failed the behind the wheel the first time and passed it the second time. Then I got my liscense .

When you approach a stop sign, remember to look left, right, left and then go when clear. Also look in your mirrors and over your shoulders when you are merging into another lane. Some officers are touchy about that. Use your turning signals when merging into other lanes also just so you don't take other drivers by surprise.

Just be calm basically though .

Lol the thing with merging and me is that i look left, but i unconciously move the wheel in the direction i look and switching lanes i do abruptly, not smoothly heh

I am also near-sighted so i have to wear glasses while driving, which sadly, my old ones obstruct my peripheral vision. I am getting new ones soon and hopefully that'll help a bit.

I think Driving is really easy to get the hang of. It's all really just about making the best judgement calls as possible and following the rules.


Also, remember not to cross over unbroken, double yellow lines and stay on the right side of the road.

Also the main thing is to just relax. My first time behind the wheel i was so tense that when i was finished my leg muscles were sore.

No, can't say I have. I'm actually not old enough to take lessons and even if I was, I doubt I would.

I just took my first written permit test today. I got 11 wrong and you're only allowed to miss 8. Oh well, I'll try again next week..!
