That grabs my interest....Only villain I really recall from the Spidey series that could be brought into a musical is Black Cat.

According to Empire Magazine the villains for the musical have been confirmed as Green Goblin and Rhino.
The female villain is not Black Cat but an entirely new character - Swiss Miss

It makes me think of a wonderfully funny Laurel and Hardy movie of the same name...

That and Cameron Diaz in that fantastic costume in Charlie's Angels!

Tony Award winner Alan Cumming is currently in negotiations to star in Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, the eagerly awaited new musical about the Marvel comic books hero.

The New York Post reports that the Tony-winning Cabaret star is in talks to play the role of the evil Green Goblin. No official casting for the production has been made.

Julie Taymor appears to be considering going the unknown route in casting the leads for her return to Broadway with "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." A nationwide casting call has been announced running April 9 through May 27 in Orlando, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and Austin.

While Evan Rachel Wood (who starred for Taymor in "Across the Universe") has frequently been mentioned as attached to the project to play Mary Jane, the casting announcement states: " 'Spider-Man' is seeking principals and understudies for the roles of Peter Parker, Mary Jane and 'Female Lead Villain.'"

Seems as if they already had a male villain in mind.

Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming Cast in Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark

Initial casting has been announced for the new musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, which will now begin previews at Broadway's Hilton Theatre Feb. 25, 2010, more than a month later than originally reported (Jan. 16, 2010). A new opening date will be announced shortly.

Evan Rachel Wood will play Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's girlfriend, and Tony winner Alan Cumming will star as Norman Osborn (aka Green Goblin), Spider-Man's most notorious nemesis.

The Lion King's Julie Taymor directs.

About the casting of Wood and Cumming, Taymor said in a statement, "'Across The Universe' was my first opportunity to work with Evan Rachel Wood — and it was a sublime experience. Evan is unique: she is a young actress with incredible depth for both serious and comic drama in films and theater, and on top of that, she has an extraordinary lyrical voice. We are thrilled to have her as our Mary Jane. . . . I obviously love him as this is my third collaboration with Alan – and finally we get to do it on stage. He has such range and such charisma as a performer that I feel confident his Green Goblin will bring many surprises that will move and entertain us." Additional casting will be announced at a later time.

On Broadway, 'Spider-Man's' greatest enemy is the budget

Sources close to the production say the musical's producers need to raise as much as $24 million to cover a $52-million budget.

As this Spider-Man tale opens, the audience sees New York City "on fire and in ruins" as "a section of the Brooklyn Bridge ascends with Mary Jane bound and dangling helplessly from the bridge." Soon thereafter, a new villainess called Arachne flies into the picture spinning her own deadly trap, and as Spider-Man battles all kinds of criminals he's swinging right over the audience.

It sounds like the 3-D opening for the next "Spider-Man" sequel, and even though this superhero story is filled with Hollywood-style special effects, it is instead a glimpse from a confidential script of a planned "Spider-Man" musical -- the priciest undertaking, and among the most troubled productions, in Broadway history.
