Re: 2 Tony nominations for 'The Little Mermaid'

I'm little bit upset, because they didn't nominated for Best Musical. No thanks to those no good brutal, idiotic, villanously, Disney hating critics!
It looks like for the job of The Man In the Ceiling.

But, I am very glad they got nominated. I know they may not win, but I'm glad they got nominated.

Now I do have predictions of who will win.

Best Musical:
Cry Baby-Not a chance
In the Heights-Definitlely
Passing Strange-Not this time! Forget it!
Xanadu-Definitely number 2

Passing Strange may have won for the Drama Critic Awards but In the Heights won for Best Off Broadway Musical last year. So screw Passing Strange. And vote for either In the Heights or Xanadu.

^It is not the fault of Disney critics that Little Mermaid was just mediocre on almost every level. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Disney shows. Lion King and B&B were both amazing (let's not forget that critics loved Lion King), it's just that Disney's recent ventures into the theatre (Tarzan anyone) are not up to the standards of other shows in the vicinity.

Well, I know that.

It is good to see the show was nominated for something. At least it gets the name out there. I hope they win.

Re: 2 Tony nominations for 'The Little Mermaid'

I haven't seen it, but from what I hear it didn't deserve a Best Musical nomination.

That was sort of expected in that the costumes and set are the most criticized part of the show.

Yeah, some of the costumes are pretty sad looking like Flounder with his yellow t-shirt and Sebastian with his weird, googley-eye hat.

I thought she would get one too. That's a bit disappointing. She really is fantastic.

I can't believe Grease got nominated for Best Revival. I don't think I read one decent review for the show.

That is your opinion on the portrayal of the costumes. To me, the costumes speak with the characters. I love how flounders has almost a kiddish element to it.

Re: 2 Tony nominations for 'The Little Mermaid'

Little Mermaid on Broadway is a theme park show. Finding Nemo at Animal Kingdom is a Broadway show. They really got those two reversed.

I'm still confused about King Triton's casting, but that's another story. It's like a big elephant in the room that's never addressed.

'Colour-blind' casting used to bother me too. But then I eventually became 'colour-blind' (and that is the thing that challenges your belief in a story about mermaids and singing crabs?!)
