Bird's Eye View of TDR

Microsoft Live Maps (maps.live.com) recently updated their Bird's Eye feature for Tokyo, including TDR. It's a very cool feature that allows you to get an aerial overview of the resort from many angles (also available for WDW and DL).

Some samples:

It's free and easy to use: go to the site above, find Tokyo, then find TDR (on an isthmus in Tokyo Bay), zoom in with your mouse and click on "Bird's eye."

Re: Bird's Eye View of TDR

Wow, I knew the Mythica Crown barge was big, but I didn't know it took up that much space in the lagoon!

Thanks for those updated air shots of TDR.

Re: Bird's Eye View of TDR

Looks great, a lot of the barges can be seen waiting backstage just up a little bit and to the left.

Re: Bird's Eye View of TDR

The only ones I can identify of those barges are the four "egg" barges that are lined up for Mythica. I think I can see the Meet and Smile barge, but I'm not sure where the other four Mythica barges are (the ones with the mythical creatures).

Those really are amazing shots! I'll have to play with that site later, because I'm sure I'll be absorbed for hours looking at all the Disney parks around the world...

Re: Bird's Eye View of TDR

You can see from these air shots that Monsters Inc. is in a "no-mans land" between World Bazaar and Tomorrowland - probably the most appropriate place for it in the park. If OLC/WDI does get around to overhauling Tomorrowland (and hopefully giving it a consistent storyline/design); they can leave Monsters on the outskirts and not have to worry about integrating its incongruous story into a land about the future.

Re: Bird's Eye View of TDR

I don't think anyone at Disney cares anymore what goes into Tomorrowland or whether it makes thematic sense to put it there. But by looking at those pictures, I have to admit I am surprised how big the Monsters Inc building looks like when compares to Star Tours next door. At ground level, the Monsters building looks rather small and un-imposing.

Zeek, look again at the very first photo. You can see the 4 "egg" shaped character brages lined up waiting to go out to the lagoon, and just to thr right of them, you can see the creature floats parked next to the "egg" lineup. Most visible is the pegasus float (white horse). Three photos down, you can see the Mythica show in progress, but the backstage area is not visible so, the creatures floats are out of sight there. Reason for that is because the creatures floats are only on the lagoon in view of guests for 6 minutes out of the entire 20 mins show.
That picture also illustrates quite nicely how the Exploration's Fortress is shaped like Mickey's Head, which is one of the least known hidden Mickeys in TDS park.

The Crown Barge, or as called by the cast, the "Key" Barge (as it's supposed to symbolize the "Key to Mythica") is quite huge, and requires anchoring in the bay. Legs below water will be lowered until the barge is secured to the floor under the lagoon. When Mickey comes out with the Goddest of Mythica, they are as high as about 8 stories above water. When the water fountains shoot water to the farthest point of the barge.. I estimate it to be a circular hit of about 125 feet in diameter around the barge. Makes the Illuminations geosphere look like a pinpong ball in comparison..but the Key Barge also looks huge due to TDS' smaller lagoon size. But it is huge nonetheless.

Randy! Great thread!! I can even see me in Arabian Coast!! Lovely shot of the TDLH as well.
Gosh, my TDR is so pretty!!

Where is the plot of land that they are going to put Atlantis?

Also i look right now on msn live maps you can see the mytholical floats in the backstage area. They look totally cool. I just got back from Japan and visited Tokyo Disney Resort last week and TDL and TDS are awesome parks. My favorite parades were the Jubiliation parade at TDL and the Legend of Mythica at TDS. The floats were amazing.

Looks like there is room for an eighth port south of Lost River Delta, but I think Atlantis was just a rumor cooked up by BlueSkyDisney (Atlantis is already visited in 20,000K).

I believe the most solid rumors on TDS's next attraction are for a Soarin' type attraction (possibly themed to Leonardo's Flying Machine) which would go north of the Mediterranean aqueduct or Toy Story Mania in New York (north of ToT).

Re: Bird's Eye View of TDR

The plans for Soarin' have been killed. Toy Story Midway Mania is now most likely.
