Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

Hello everyone! I've added pictures and video of this attraction that spanned 37 years, 26 of those at TDL. Sayonara Mickey Mouse Revue!

Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

Every time I come on MC lately, I wind up back in this thread, and more and more great things are added. Thanks so much to everyone who have helped to document this attraction for those of us who were never fortunate enough to see it in person.

I still watch the videos over and over.

Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

Love everyone's pics and memories. I have been here since Monday for the first time in Tokyo. Wow these parks are amazing. I took a bunch of pics on the last day of Mickey Mouse Review if anyone wants to see more (who can every get enough, that's a great show.)

More Mickey Mouse Review Pics on Flickr.

I have been posting a ton of trip pics also.

Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

Such a good show, it's a shame to see it go. They don't really make these kinds of attractions anymore so it should exist in one form or another. Like America Sings these animatorics should find new homes and not simply collect dust in some storage room or be ripped apart.

I wish they will take these electric doll to show or decor in some place within TDL such as in World Bazarr or in some special event. Is it possible?

Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

Mickey Mouse Revue is the one thing I remember most when I first visited WDW in 1978. I remember Panchito firing his pistols in the Three Caballeros segment scared the bejebus out of 3 year old me. But at the end, when the curtain closed on Mickey, the theatre was dead quiet... until I blurted out at top volume, "MICKEY! MICKEY! DON'T GOOOOOOOOO!!!" (It was the first time I had seen Mickey that day). The entire audience busted out laughing (and my parents wanted to crawl in a hole and die).

One of the main reasons I'd been wanting to go to TDL is to see this show again. Sadly, I'll never get to see it again except for on video. But one day I still plan on visiting TDR (mainly to see TDS).

Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

All those wonderful AA's, how sad. One Christmas a long time ago I got a first edition of The Art of Walt Disney. On pages 402 and 403 there's a huge photo of 2 imagineers programing the finale of this show. I had to wait 5 years before I saw it in person. Even back then I knew Walt would have loved this attraction. It is sad to think that Audio-animatronics don't hold the magic for todays park guests. Mickey you've had a bad week but I know as I type you have a smile on your face.

Re: Sayonara MICKEY MOUSE REVIEW :(

I saw the MMR once when I was 7 on my first trip to WDW and remember loving it. It was one of my Dad's favorites too. When we went back a few years later and found out it was gone we were very disappointed. Later I learned it had moved to Tokyo and I was happy it was still entertaining people somewhere even if I wouldn't get to see it again any time soon. I've been hoping to go to Tokyo someday and this show was one of the many reasons. I guess the only constant in life is change.

Some observations and questions...
  1. I like how there is a tie-in with the Snow White scene and Alice in Wonderland scene with the Fantasyland attractions at Disneyland. They are very similar, which in my opinion is a good thing.
  2. As far as the English language version is concerned, I am thinking that this comes from WDW? It would have been nice if Snow White/Alice/the Godmother had similar voices to what was in the movies.
  3. What's up with the gorilla playing the xylophone? I don't seem to remember seeing a gorilla in any of the Disney classic cartoons.
  4. It almost reminds me of America Sings, how all the different scenes are edited together. This too is a good thing.
2. From what I remember, the Alice AA in the MMR was voiced by the same person who voiced Alice in the movie (Katherine... something).

3. As someone else pointed out, that's King Louie from Jungle Book. And he's an orangutan, not a gorilla.

Other AAs could be recycled or put on display as part of an exhibit for WDW's 40th (maybe re-assemble the show in the Town Square Exposition Hall in the former Walt Disney Story space?).
I think both are good ideas, but I'd rather keep all aspects of the show together and not be separated. They could use the Three Caballeros AA's to make new molds for updated AA's for Gran Fiesta Tour.

What is this new walk-thru at TDL you speak of? This is the first I've heard of it.

And the Song of the South characters aren't needed in Splash Mountain. They already have plenty of AA figures of these characters in there already. Plus the overall look between the MMR AA's and the Splash AA's are quite different if you compare them side by side.

Kathryn Beaumont. She also provides the voice of Alice in the dark ride at DL, and according to imdb, she did the voice in House of Mouse and Kingdom Hearts too.

Here's the link. I am SO excited about this!! I hope I'm still here for it.

I love all these photos of MMR. I will really miss it. I feel so lucky that I at least got to see it a few times.

I can only hope that OLC will improve on it.. but I am not holding my breath on that. It's a cute film but highly overrated.

BTW.. the entire section of MMR is now blocked off with wall.
