Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

Hi DuffyDad, nice to see you at the Park the other day.

Rick McKee composed certain songs for the following events:

For the TDL parade: We Are the Stars (Ursula's song)
For the TDS show: Only Tonight (when Mickey stops freaking out)

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

I really really love the soundtrack music for the Mysterious Maquerade show at TDS. Lush orchestrations with enough pop to make it varied and fun... but nevertheless, in TDS fashion... quite lovely and eloquent, which is why TDS music is always the best and most accomplished of all disney parks on Earth.

It was great to finally meet you in person, too, Joe. TDS was more fun with you in it! Thanks for answering my question.

By the by, anybody know if the Night High Halloween and Mouse-querade dance music is gonna be available on CD. It looks like the CD out now only has the main show.

Mysterious Masquerade is amazing. I adore the Donald Sequence. The outfits however are a bit jarring for the ghost/human masquerade attendees but still it is far superior to any other Disney Halloween Event. Any ideas for next year?

Custom mask-making instead of the Crystal Lockets? I'd've loved a made-to-order mask like the way they do leather straps. Adding deco-rivets, feathers and such; plus choosing colors and stencils. There could be four or five base shapes. Only I hope the mask is vinyl, not leather. This is assuming they keep variations on the Masquerade theme, though, which is a pretty hefty assumption. Joe and Ichigo had some interesting thoughts, too, when we were there.

And I'd still love Hotel Hightower as a walkthrough "haunted tour" in the daytime (which would directly compete with one of Fuji-Q's major draws), allowing for photos. Hosted by Manfred and Rose, bickering with each other, it could be quite funny and entertaining too. Then running the normal attraction at night. Plus, TOT Halloween-themed goods. I'd've loved to have a trinket box this year decorated with Hightower's artifacts and playing the "You're Invited" Masquerade theme.

Also, when the Masquerade characters come into the crowd - I love it! - but I keep thinking how great it would be if we could actually dance with the CMs in some "super lucky" section, so that we really are part of the party. Like the kids that got to be part of the parade this summer - Cham-piyon!^^

Do you think they will continue the Masquerade theme next year?

I've been thinking about this a bit... I can't imagine a better theme for TDS. It is truly perfect ambiance in that park right now. At least for me. That said, people want to keep things fresh, and I can't imagine the Masquerade without Hightower. I guess someone else could have a masquerade party, but I sort of wonder if that would just feel "tacked on." A more festive Carnivale theme is possible, I guess. But I love the darkness and elegance of Mysterious Masquerade, and I personally love having the Hightower mythos in the mix, since it doesn't exist as its own film or something. I'm sure people smarter than me working at Disney and OLC have already given this a lot of thought and had ideas about how to outdo themselves well before the current event ever started. Kudos to all the planners who've made something truly remarkable!

Oo!! Oo!! Wouldn't it be great if this year for New Year's they recreated Harrison Hightower's party and the "accident?" A dance show outside and a tour in the Hotel! I want a chance to explore the secrets of that building!!!

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

Well, personally, I do not see them using the Masquerade theme next year. With so many different ports, I think that this year's theme was to showcase New York Harbor, next year it may showcase the Arabian Coast, or Lost River Delta. I too agree that the Masquerade theme is sheer brilliance and the only reason I want to see them get rid of it next year is to see what else they can do.

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

Lost River Delta can't host a show the size of this year's Masquerade. For an Arabian Coast theme, what would be the Halloween connection?

I am not sure, it may take me a while. However it would have taken me a long time to think of the Masquerade theme for Halloween as well. You know, waiting sucks.

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

Don't you think its a bit too early to think about what they will do at TDS next year for halloween? Besides, this event this year is still in "remain to be seen how it performs and affects park's attendance" mode....

In regards to the costumes.. I think they are fabulous. You do not see costuming this elaborate at the other Disney parks in the World, with the exception of maybe...DLP? where costuming used to be great when they first opened the park. I know at WDW, the budgets for any show are less than what they spend at TDR for costuming alone.. so go figure.

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

Looking at the videos, those were reason #478 why I wish I was in Japan right now.

Seriously, the parade looks great and I really love seeing how well the crowd get's into the show part of it. (Something that really can't be said over here in the states where "audience interaction and participation= just for kids" is in most people's mindset.)

As for the Mysterious Masqurade show, love the costumes, love the music and major bonus points for including the Hightower story into it.

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

I find it odd of the choice they use for Chinese "ghosts" in Mysterious Masqurade.

At TDL, the day and night parades seem to have the "good" characters appear in different floats for both parades, or was it my wrong observation? I only had views of 3 or 4 floats when they stopped for the performance along the parade route so could not tell exactly what appeared in other floats.

Re: An Official Halloween 2009 Thread

The same characters appear in both parades in the same floats and positions. During the day parade, the "good" characters appear throughout, while the villains appear only during the show (stop) mode. The opposite happens for the nighttime parade.

I think the jiang shi (zombies/vampires) are appropriate. According to Chinese legend, they possess and the absorb the life of its victims, kind of like what they were doing in the show.
