    Re: Big Earthquake Hits Tokyo

I hope they don't cancel the 10 ann. celebration. I can see putting it off and since the ann isn't till September, its not really putting it off, its more starting it later. I would guess and could be wrong, that in a few months those who are in japan, might want to escape whats going on in the real world and could use a day or two at TDR. So i hope OLC just puts off the celebration.

And you are right, they have put out the money already so why not put out what they have? I am assuming that the merchandise and decorations weren't destroyed in the earth quake and events that followed.

I keep watching the news and send thoughts and prayers to those in Japan. Its heart breaking to see what they are going through.

An update says that Disney is in the process of resuming operations in Japan but the parks will still remain closed due to a lack of power and transportation to the area.

    Re: Big Earthquake Hits Tokyo

Since we've had enough of sad news over the last 10 days, I'll try to post positive news whenever I find them on Japanese news sites.

March 20, rescuers found 2 people in the rubble. 80 year old grandmother and 16 year old grandson. Their house was hit by Tsunami when they were in the kitchn and they were trapped in. They survived for 9 days by eating and drinking Yogurt, milk, water and other food found in their fridge for 9 days. They kept themselves warm with dry blankets and had an enough space to lie down and sleep. Their family went to look for them right after Tsunami water moved away, but the house was floated away quite a bit, so the family could not locate them back then. They are doing fine in the hospital now.

From Asahi Shimbun, a leadning English newspaper in Japan...

TEPCO: Rolling power cuts to last at least a year

Tokyo Electric Power Co. will likely continue its rolling blackouts in the Kanto region for at least a year due to damage at two large thermal power plants, a senior company official said.

The prolonged power outages through this summer and winter will deal a blow not only to residents of Tokyo and surrounding prefectures but also add to business woes.

The TEPCO official told The Asahi Shimbun that the utility will continue power outages because equipment and fuel storage facilities at the Hirono thermal power plant in Hirono, Fukushima Prefecture, and the Hitachinaka thermal power plant in Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture, were severely damaged in tsunami triggered by the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake.
