Duffy Bear Mania at the Tokyo Disney Resort!

Can't go within 20 miles of the TDR without encountering loads of Duffy Bears, found some just the other day!

Tried to insert the picture here but it said "remote file too large", anyway you can see it below (in future, I'll try to find pictures that are smaller so I can include them here as well).

We were sent over there with the message that only we would defend Disney quality.. We learnt quickly that the Japanese culture speaks to a level of quality that is hard to comprehend. They were all unbelievably skilled and willing to do the right thing.

Yeah even here in the States I've seen Japanese tourists with several (as in more than 3) badges attached to their bags, plus carrying a Duffy around as well.

I'm wondering if it's the same X as well. The X from LP certainly was a bit more verbose though, so it's hard to tell. But, the drumming blog is making me think "yes".

If it's you, welcome! And, yeah, 3 keychains is small potatoes, LOL!

That's nothing. I've seen a woman try to carry her 5 Duffies including an XL Duffy to ride Raging Spirits.

How fun! The most bears I've carried is 3, Duffy, ShellieMay & Little Joe. Little Joe is a 12" Duffy.

The most Duffy's I've seen around the parks was at the MK on One More Disney Day. Just about all the Duffy lovers had a Duffy & a ShellieMay!!! I hope that the park managers noticed all the ShellieMays!

CMs & managers totally notice my Shellie May when I take her to WDW. They all get excited when they see her, ask how I got her and some ask if they can hold her. It's pretty awesome.

I went to DCA last week for three days. Each day there was NO LINE for Duffy and a long line for Mickey. The CM told me that she doesn't expect Shellie May to come to the USA anytime soon due to the low popularity Duffy has here.

Seems like people that love Duffy really appreciate and support him in the USA. Unfortunately the number of people in the USA that do love Duffy are few.

Re: Duffy Bear Mania at the Tokyo Disney Resort!

Duffy seems to always have a line at Epcot. Even if it's short, it's still a line. When my parents went to Epcot for my mom's birthday on a weekday this past February, she said the line for Duffy was pretty long and didn't want to wait in it, but I talked her into it because I knew she would otherwise regret it because she's a big Duffy fan. When I saw Duffy in February and again the other weekend, I went to see him twice both times and both times (once in the morning and later that afternoon), he had a line.

With Duffy it's a cultural thing. The Japanese took to him like a duck to water. They didn't care he's not associated with a movie or a TV show. Just thought he was cute and liked his story. Here in the US, the majority can't seem to like a character unless it's associated with something.

Me? I take the cute for what it is. I like several Japanese characters because they're just cute. Totoro is an example. I saw photos of him online and I had no idea WTH he was, but thought, "Oh he's CUTE!" and I wanted a Totoro plushie. After doing some research, I learned about the "My Neighbor Totoro" movie (which I still need to see). Same with Domo. I just thought he was weird but cute, then found his videos on YouTube and was amused to no end. I can't get enough of Domo now.

I had never even heard of Duffy until I went to Disney Sea. He was everywhere and the stores were all over the park too. He's cute, but not that cute. I wanted to see more of Mickey and his friends. The other things that were very popular were the capes with the gloves attached...we saw a lot of girls wearing the Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck Ones. And the hats with the characters and little tiny bodies attached were everywhere. Those were pretty funny.

Different strokes. I think he's freaking adorable. Really the cutest teddy I've seen in a long time. To me he's got a big personality. But I understand not everyone is going to like him... more for me then!

Hey all. Yes, it's me Gurgi.

Don't worry, I'll be more verbose. I was keeping a low profile because I want the management here to like me.

^Agreed. I didn't dislike him. I'd just never seen or heard of him so I didn't get what all the excitement was about. I was surprised at how popular Marie the cat was too.
