    Cool Solar eclipse coming!

On May 21st, there will be an annular solar eclipse visible in Asia, with the path of maximum coverage beginning in south China and then proceeding northeast to Japan and then the north Pacific all the way to Alaska, cross the international date line, and then go southeast to the contiguous USA.

An annular eclipse is more rare than a total eclipse. "Annular" means "ring-shaped" or "ring-like". At maximum coverage, the Moon wil block out 99% of the Sun, leaving a ring of light around the Moon that should be visible in Tokyo. Be very cautious when photographing the eclipse. Even at maximum coverage, the Sun can still damage the light sensor in a digital camera and damage your retinas as well. Get a filter for your camera or poke a hole in a piece of cardboard and project an image of the Sun on the ground. A small telescope can project the Sun's image onto the ground as well..

If you do succeed in photographing the eclipse, post your photos on the thread, please. Have fun!

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.
