Tokyo Disney and the Old Cheese

Apparently the cheese du jour at Tokyo Disneyland is actually, yesterday's cheese. I think this article seems a BIT of an Overreaction...

Restaurant at Tokyo Disneyland used expired cheese for menu

    Friday, January 19, 2007 at 15:30 EST
CHIBA Tokyo Disneyland operator Oriental Land Co. said Friday a restaurant in the amusement theme park used expired cheese for a limited number of dishes Thursday.

Some 140 grams of mozzarella cheese was used for nine appetizer dishes at Eastside Cafe between 11:30 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. one day after the expiration date for the cheese, it said. The restaurant stopped using the cheese as soon as it found the use-by date of the cheese had expired, Oriental Land said.

But that kind of thing is huge news in Japan...a slip like that isn't something they are pleased with ever having.

It is kinda of scary to go on the Orange County Board of Health and Restaurant inspections of Disneyland...

I think it is good in ways that they made it public because it assures that the company realizes potential situations and tries to make sure they don't happen, and in this case probably may have prevented illness. While some might say they should have checked before they used it, it is good they even did so. It might have days or longer if something like this happened in the U.S. I think they are more safety conscious in Japan, like with beef, the whole country stopped all the beef imports if even one potential case of disease was reported..

Wow, that's insane that they reported this but I see it as another example of how well the Tokyo parks are run over their U.S. counterparts. I'm sure at Disneyland using nine day old cheese is just normal operating procedure!

Universal Japan just had a similar scare with some chocolates sold in their park.
