How about they just remove it? It looks bad in front of Haunted Mansion.

To me the old style Dumbo seems to fit better with the "fair" theme.

How can you even say that

Dumbo is a classic and while the TDL version could do with a makeover to remove it all together is just wrong.

    It's not Fantasyland without Dumbo.

And the front of The Haunted Mansion should be changed to not look like the one in Disney World. Possibly someyhing like this.

Oh come on. There was a bunch of these style rides being built in Germany after WWII (the ones there were using AA gun motors) which made them cheap, so Walt bought one and put elephants cabins on. Whoop de doo.

Dumbo was a fairly inexpensive way to add another attraction to a young Disneyland that needed all the attractions it could get. I'll never get stop getting a kick out of how something that was done out of desperation 50 years ago can become a cherished must-have tradition today.

That's pop culture for you. Find Jesus in a piece of toast and you make history but Brokeback Mountain doesn't get the Oscar.

Disneyland's Dumbo, despite its cheapness, became a world-renowned icon because it was born where it was and because it was photogenic. Just like the Hilton sisters. Superimpose a castle, a teacup and a flying elephant and you've got Disneyland. People need easily recognizable icons, just like Andy Warhol noted. Sell a Coke in a mug and you'll lose its strength. I like how that works.

Having said that, the old Dumbo looks like a pimped weapon of mass destruction and the new one surprisingly nice. Whoever came up with that music box idea should get an award.

You make a good point. The Dumbo they have in Tokyo fits the Ren Fair better than the Paris Fountain version. Maybe just change the gate around it so it's not so plain.

Its amazing to me that this still exists in this form at TDL. It seems like it would be such a quick fix and a major improvement. The
    kids LOVE Dumbo.

BTW... I believe in one of Al's recent updates he said that one of Ed Grier's goals was to incourage OLC to invest more in upgrading the park specifically Tomorrowland and Fantasyland.

The ironic thing is that I believe HKDL's Dumbo ride was built in Japan.

I don't have a problem with Haunted Mansion being in Fantasyland...but they should make it look like European haunted house and not an American one. A medieval gothic looking one would be nice.

That particular design of the Haunted Mansion looks like it could very well be European. American architecture is a continuation of European architecture after all, and Gothic Revival originated in England, not America (think the Palace of Westminster). It could very well stand in Surrey, England or any other old, ritzy area of mid/northern Europe. The Disneyland version is far more obviously (colonial) American.

I think the Haunted Mansion should look like this.

That would be a design for a Main Street Haunted Mansion.
