Re: Tokyo Disneyland "DREAM BOX" DVD Set!!!

    hey there,
Yes i actually live in California right next to Disneyland lol, anyways if you want to get this DVD Set, you shouldn't have a problem watching it, i bought the Tokyo Disney Sea 5th Anniversary DVD a year ago and then i put it into my computer and then WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER just asked me to change the region code so that it could play it! It was that easy, as for American DVD players it may not play on all of them unless you have a region free player, even if you don't you can do a "region hack" that means you can punch some numbers on your remote so that it can change the code on the Region and you can view it on a US DVD player!. Tokyo is not putting out anymore VHS, probably because VHS is now vanishing from the markets, however DVD's are more likely to stay around for quite sometime. Hopefully they don't start putting stuff on BLU-RAY then no one would be able to enjoy these dvds! anyways don't give your hopes up and get this set!

Re: Tokyo Disneyland "DREAM BOX" DVD Set!!!

One big thing - do not forget that when you put foreign DVDs into your computer DVD player, that you usually only get a certain number of times to change the region code before it then becomes permanent. Usually a computer gives 4 to 5 chances, and on the last one, it will stay permanent. Each computer/system is different, so pay attention to it.

The other option is go and get a region 2 player. I say region 2 because I have a region free player that has a problem playing region 2 (Japan) DVDs. It shouldn't, but it is weird like that.
So your best bet is to go out and get a REGION 2 player exclusively. You can find some pretty darn cheap ones out there too.

Re: Tokyo Disneyland "DREAM BOX" DVD Set!!!

^google or yahoo ''currency converter'' and plug in the numbers to convert yen to US dollars.
when you buy, your credit card company automatically converts in your billing after the transaction.

Region should be printed on the DVD box, and amazon lists it in the DVD specs for whatever you are looking at.
For the player, if it's bought in the US at any regular outlet that sells DVD players, they are usually automatically Region one.
To find region 2 players, you may have to google and look around for places that sell. Also check out asian video stores in your city, but internet might be your best bet.

    I just ordered a copy, the grand total is 6700 Yen = 43 € (62 US$).
Europe is DVD Region 2 (same as Japan), but my local retailer made my player zone free (so I can play US DVDs), it's very easy, it took seconds and was very cheap.

Well... not so fast. Some european region 2 are PAL format. Japan's region 2 is NTCS format. So do not assume that european dvd players will play the japanese dvds just because. AS Oliver did, the dvd must be formatted to region-free. As a matter of fact, some of DLP's region free dvd programs do not play in Japan and in some models of dvd players in the USA.

Re: Tokyo Disneyland "DREAM BOX" DVD Set!!!

^That is true. pay attention to the PAL and NTSC formats when buying depending on your player...and what country you live in.

It is weird though. My region free player just won't play TDR DVDs. Sometimes certain players are really odd, depending on the manufacturer. Sometimes you just never know if it's going to work correctly. As for being in the US and using NTSC, someone I know who is Japanese and orders every DVD she owns from Japan uses a Region 2 player, because the region frees can be a little iffy.
There is another way around the whole thing, but I don't think I should say it because it might get this thread shut down. But there are other ways...

Given the total running time divided by how many shows they're covering it's probably gonna just be the quick highlights like they've done on previous anniversary "come to the park" teaser dvds, which is a shame. I'm glad they're rereleasing Viva Magic updated to DVD quality but 1 more woulda been nice.

I have never had a problem playing a TDR DVD on one of my Region 2 DVD players. Even plays well on the PC

Yes, the collection of highlights will be short moments of past shows, parades and events.. Do not expect long segments or you'll be disappointed.

Well it's for that reason that I think it's overpriced.

You don't understand... that is the average price for DVds in japan, especially boxed sets. So to them, No it's not overpriced. This is the country where you pay about $25 for a regular music CD.
