    Hi all!

I seldom post here (I'd usually be lurking here or at the HKDL threads), but just thought I'd share some photos and thots from a late May trip to Tokyo Disney Resort (sorry it's a bit late too but Real Life kinda got in the way...)

This was part of a week-end short vacation in Tokyo from May 24 to 30, where my family enjoyed a few days around and just out of Tokyo (including a very wet excursion to Hakone), with the rest of the week at Tokyo Disney Resort. Coming from South East Asia, it's not an easy trip to either Disneyland or WDW. And while I love HKDL and have no doubt that it holds great potential, to me the gold standard has always been TDR.

The Tokyo Bay Hilton is usually my favorite place to stay when I'm at TDR, and this time around, I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a new "Happy Magic Room" (you have to go to their Japanese website to see it http://www.hiltontokyobay.jp/stay/room/happy_magic.html)

A whole floor had been convered for the "Happy Magic Rooms" - this is the lift lobby - notice the tree trunks?

The tree trunks had nice optical effect (a unicorn that you could reach for but couldn't touch)

One view of the room - there's a key which you can fit into a keyhole and turn to get a light and sound effect

View of the room from the other angle - the mirror at the corner hides a photo of a small girl, which appears with some music - this spooked me out the first time when I did "...and I wonder what this button does..."

Overall, very nicely themed and a great option for families with kids.

    Let's get going!

The 25th anniversary logos were everywhere, like here on the Disney Resort Cruisers

Tower of Terror as viewed from the Resort Line. Always interesting to peek into the backstage area...

There were advertisements for the FUNderful Disney Fan Club program in the Disney Resort Line.

I think you get this pin for signing up...

...as well as this card with a whole bunch of benefits that I can't figure out without going to the TDR website.

The Tokyo Disneyland Hotel was beautiful, very nicely themed! It seemed as if the place was almost ready to receive guests, with what appeared to be hotel staff making final preparations for the July opening.

View from the Resort Line as we come to the Tokyo Disneyland station.

Beautiful landscaping in front of the hotel. See the topiaries? You can also make out some monogram for the hotel as well.

The level of detail was just amazing. Anyone saw Mickey yet?

A shot of the main foyer at night.

Some of the rooms were lighted, as if last-minute adjustments and tests were going on inside the rooms.

Onward to Tokyo Disneyland! We were there on May 27 and 28, and the crowds were not as bad as I feared, especially on the 27th. Most of the rides were like 15-20 min waits, with some attractions like Pirates being virtually walk-ons.

    The "25" logos were everywhere...really.

Did I mention that the "25" logos were everywhere?

Goofy welcomes everyone, with the "25" logo.

    Donald too!

Couple of shots around the park. I'm not one for words, so I'll let the photos do the talking...

The crowd rushes to take photos in front of World Bazaar.

    World Bazaar

    Balloon sellers.

Did I mention that the "25" logos were everywhere?

View of Walt and Mickey from behind.

Lovely flowers around the hub area.

    Westernland

Standing in the queue for Big Thunder, facing the rest of Westernland.

    Sign for Big Thunder

Although the signboard for Splash said a 30-min wait, I'd say we were able to ride in about half that time.

    Theming around Splash Mountain.

    Tomorrowland

The new color scheme - very striking

Space Mountain re-do. I liked the the jazzed up spaceship in the loading area.

Love the fountains between the castle and Tomorrowland Terrace

That's the line for Buzz? Correction: That's the Fastpass line for Buzz! Yikes!

    "25" tribute to Haunted Mansion.

    Merchandise!!

Looks like TDL was starting early for summer: "Aloha means Love", starring Stitch, and unidentified ... friend

    More "Aloha Means Love" merch.

    "25" tee-shirt

The miniature versions of TDL and TDS were on display. I drooled over this. They can be yours for 100,000 yen (that's about $950) each!

    TDL minature.

Well, that's it for now. I've got some more shots of the parades, shows and a very wet Tokyo DisneySea. It might be a short while before I can get some more updates soon but will try to get them posted up real soon.

    Later!

Hey, I was at TDR on 26th and 30th. I agree that the nearest Disney Theme parks for us living in SEA are HKDL and TDL/S. Great photos!!

The "happy magic room" floor looks like a lot of fun! I agree that it's really interesting to peek backstage while riding the monorail. Last time we saw the Spring Carnival performers waving to us from the ToT area! Can't wait to see your pictures of TDS!

Well I can't quite recall, but it was in World Bazaar, maybe Disney & Co, I think?

Re: Trip Report to TDR, May 26 to 30

Ok, sorry folks for the delay, here's the next part of my trip report:

    Onward to Adventureland...

Detail in the Jungle Cruise queue.

I was astonished to find no barriers nor cages for the detailed props in the queue. I could literally touch the lamp or pick up the phone here.

    Har har...I think.

Just across the loading area in the Jungle Cruise queue.

Here comes our boat. The skippers were a riot! In Japanese! If only I could figure out the jokes they were cracking. The rest of the boat were sure chuckling along though.

Swung around Westernland as we made our way to the hub for the Jubliation parade. Notice the hotel's name?

    The Jubilation Parade!

As usual, TDL has outdone itself. We totally loved the parade.

    Princess Garden

    Forest Friends

    Jungle Safari

    Pirate Moon

    Bubbles

Excuse me, is this where the Pixar invasion starts?

    Hi'ya Mickey!

    Next part coming soon...

Re: Trip Report to TDR, May 26 to 30

Next part of my trip report:

Work still going on at the Monsters, Inc: Ride And Go Seek attraction.

As dusk settled, we managed to catch the excellent show "One Man's Dream II - The Magic Lives On."

    The grand finale!

IASW. We were waiting for the Dreamlights parade and we thought of killing some time in IASW. Hmmm. What on earth were we thinking?

    The Dreamlights parade!

Everyone clapped along to the Baroque Hoedown here. It was really nice to hear that song coming through over the speakers.

Loved the Mike and Sulley float.

    Nemo found!

    Dude...

    A classic.

Cindy is surprised at her color coodination.

Fireworks! Now this is one area where TDR doesn't shine as well. I guess it has to do with various reasons such as the proximity of the resort to residential areas? I'll have to admit that HKDL's Disney in the Stars beats this hands down.

Thank you so much! Can't wait to come back!

The concluding part of my trip report, showing a rather wet TDS, coming up soon!

Re: Trip Report to TDR, May 26 to 30

Concluding part of my trip report:

On the day we were scheduled to visit TDS, the weather report wasn't very optimistic: Rain for most of the day. Oh well. Staying at the Hilton we had early entry to TDS, and so we went. The weather also meant that I couldn't take as much photo as I would have like, so my apologies in advance.

Dreary start to the day, with us waiting at the Bayside station for the Resort Liner.

    Welcome to Tokyo DisneySea!

The weather seemed to make Mount Prometheus even more forbodding.

    Shots of American Waterfront.

Tower of Terror preshow. Man, I can't figure out what spooked me out more - the ride or that Shiriki Utundu!

BraviSEAmo! Mickey does his best storyteller impression.

    The...erm, water gal.

    The...erm, fire dude guy.

    First date.

Gondola ride. My wife made me get on this. I didn't have a choice. But it was interesting to see female gondoliers with our gondola.

Aquasphere with "25" logo. Bye TDS! It was fun, even with the rain.

Last few shots showing some of the stuff bought:

I think this is for summer. But it's nice and cool.

    Nice figurines.

Disney Resort Cruiser! I had to get this!

And we couldn't resist this as well.

The retro TDL stuff was cool too.

Stitch fan with water spray, just in time for the coming summer.

Well, that's it! Thanks for hanging in there. Hope you've enjoyed the photos!
