Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Happy Lost Day! Here is the next episode of "Totally Lost". It is sprinkled with spoilers which are, to my way of thinking, pretty big. So watch at your own risk.

Totally Lost (2/11/09)

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Hello?... Anybody there? Is everyone too busy suffering from time-traveling migraines? Okay, I'll start the discussion on tonight's episode, unless I type too long and someone beats me to it

I felt it was really exciting. Biggest reveal was Charlotte telling Daniel about her past. Poor Charlotte. I guess she must have met Daniel when he was building the Orchid, whenever that will happen. I hope Miles doesn't bite it. I hope these characters weren't introduced simply for the writers wanting fresh bodies to kill off so they don't feel they have to kill off the main characters. Those maniacs...
I'm even more baffled by the smoke monster now than before. Clearly, it wasn't the time-traveling sickness that caused Danielle's team to go nuts. I don't know what the monster did to them. I guess he must have possessed the men, because if they were all smoke monster, wouldn't they have just disappeared after they were shot and killed? I don't think Danielle felt she was killing her husband and her friends, but I bet there were times when she wished she could have gone down into the pit with them so she wouldn't have been alone.
I bet Locke figures out that Christian is Jack's dad. Maybe when he goes to see him, Jack has a picture of him laying around his junkie apartment?
I believed Ben when he said he'd done a lot to protect the O-6. The question then becomes "why?"
Also, my mom overheard the numbers on the French team's radio in the beginning of the episode.
Okay, that's all I've got.

I'm going to post these story-by-story, because all at once apparently makes my online provider freak out.

Lost Redux: "This Place Is Death!" - E! Online

Quote:
Jin's Plan Backfired: The very token he had hoped would keep Sun away (his wedding ring) is precisely what Ben used to lure her back to the island. Something tells me he'll have mixed emotions when he sees her! Regardless, can I just say again how happy I am to have Daniel Dae Kim back on this show? He is the shiznit, and his scenes tonight rocked.

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Lots of brain-bending stuff from Jeff Jensen.

'Lost' recap: Married to it | Lost | 1 | TV Recaps | EW.com

Quote:
And speaking of which, there was Jack's Ghost Dad, bringing the light of illumination in to the darkness of the Lost puzzle. Letting Ben turn the frozen donkey wheel? Stupid Locke! That. Wasn't. What. You. Were. Told. To. Do! Why can't you just follow the damn instructions, man! But second, Christian told John that he could still make things right. All he had to do was turn the wheel — or rather, fix the wheel by putting back on its axis — and leave the Island and convince his friends to come back. (Is this why the castaways have been flashing through time? Because Ben didn't leave the wheel in the locked position? Hilarious.) Oh, and he had to die, too. ''I guess that's why they call it...sacrifice,'' Christian said coyly. Big question: Do we trust Jack's father? Who is on the side of angels here: Christian in his Underworld or Ben and Ms. Hawking in their church? Or are they all on the side of demons? ''The only side he's on is his own,'' Sayid said of Ben. Maybe that applies to ALL the menacing power players at work in the Lostverse manipulating castaway destinies.

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

This last episode had a lot of information in it. Leave it to Ben to screw-up turning a wheel.... do you think the did it just to piss more people off?

It was nice to see the monster again.

I think that real answers are coming next week.

Looking back, I don't know why Ben took it upon himself to turn the wheel. It seems like Christian/Jacob would have been there to help him turn it the right way the first time. But if Ben hadn't done it, he wouldn't have been there to organize the O-6 and protect a dead John.
Would John still have died if he'd turned the wheel the first time? How would anyone know how to come back? Junkie Jack certainly wouldn't have known what to do.
And how upset would John have been once he discovered he was off the island, if he didn't have a reason to go other than to protect it?

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Here are some articles from Doc Artzt's Lost Blog.

Lost News, Lost Spoilers, & More DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Doc recaps the episode.

LOST 5.05 - This Place is Death - Mini Recap - DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Quote:
Desmond showed up at the church the same time as Sun, Jack, and Ben, surprised they were all looking for the same person – only Ben had no idea that Eloise was Faraday’s mother. Was that alarm on Ben’s face, or something else? Whatever it was, it was contagious because I felt a little bit of it too. Is Eloise serving a higher purpose in the game, or is her involvement strictly concerned with rescuing her little boy?
Doc Arzt expands on the possibility of the four-toed statue.

LOST Theory - The Four Toed Statue Solved (?) - DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Quote:
What if Daniel Farady somehow finds himself even farther back in time, with whatever ancient race occupied the island originally. Stuck in the past, with no means to continue his mission of undoing whatever the force is that he thinks has messed up the future. With his advanced technology, he appears to the ancients - true to Clarke’s law - as a magical being. This results in the erection of the statue as a monument to him. That’s just the explanation for the statue though. There’s more.
Doc Arzt pontificates on a piece of art in Mrs. Hawking's church.

LOST Theory - Is Mrs. Hawking’s Taste in Art A Clue? - DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Quote:
The painting that hangs in Mrs. Hawking’s church is called “The Incredulity of Saint Thomas” and it captures the very essence and origin of the term “Doubting Thomas.” Thomas was so skeptical of Christ’s return from the dead, that he wanted to feel his wounds. Could the prominent placement of this painting have meaning for us? Is LOST’s crafty brain-trust trying to send us messages?

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

More from Doc Arzt's Lost Blog.

nato64 suggests that Hurley was in this episode. (Note: this article suggests you download an audio file. You don't have to, but listening is a main part of this piece.)

http://www.docarzt.com/wp-content/up...ansmission.mp3

Quote:
While this is completely unsubstantiated, it’s been a theory of mine since the end of Season 4 that the last scene of the show will be Jack taking Hurly to the radio tower to say the numbers, setting everything in motion. Without that radio tower repeating those numbers, everything on Lost would be undone.
nato64 talks about the 70 hour window.

Food for Thought: The 70 hour Window - DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Quote:
What if in the 70 hour window Mrs. Hawking/Ringlady/Daniel’s Mother is where Sawyer and everyone have flashed to and have only 70 hours until the next flash? If the people who left don’t make it back in that 70 hour window to stop the flashes, Sawayer and everyone might be lost forever, flashing around and possibly never flashing back to a time where the O6 can return?
nato64 then asks for help translating the heiroglyphics at the entrance to Smokey's domain.

The Temple’s Hieroglyphics - DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Nikki Stafford asks questions about time travel and people's memories.

What Nikki Noticed: 5.05 This Place Is Death - DocArzt’s LOST Blog

Quote:
In “The Constant,” Dan tells Desmond to go to Oxford in 1996 and visit him and give him coordinates that he has written in his journal. He would have gotten those coordinates from Des giving them to him in 1996, that’s how they were already in there. Des hadn’t gone back in time to give him the coordinates yet, but the assumption is that he always did and always will go back to do that, and that’s how Dan has them. BUT… when Juliet brings Desmond to the helicopter (this is before Des boards it and has the flash), he sees Daniel standing nearby and doesn’t recognize him. Dan played a major role in his past, and vice versa, but neither one of them knows the other guy yet.

It looks as though Fancast is showing the "enhanced" episodes as well. It doesn't look like one aired for last week's episode. Did they listen to you, Twist_of_Fate?

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Finally able to see this week's episode in full... and damn was it good.

Absolutely loved seeing Rousseau and the history behind Montand's arm and the sickness (also great to see Smokie back). Now what happened in the temple? Did Jacob/Smokie do something to Danielle's team. But now I think its somewhat clear that she was not making up or imagining the sickness. I just hope that now that they explained most of her past, they still are able to bring her back in some way at least a few more times (especially with the normal actress).

Also have to say that Jin's response to Sawyer describing the time travel was simply hysterical. A lot of good one-liners throughout the entire show tonight.

But perhaps one of this episode's stand-outs was Charlotte. We learned so much about her and she did more than just be a bloody nose. How long was she on the island? Was she Annie (Ben's girl)? And was Faraday really on the island in the past? I know we saw him with Candle, but still.... Could it be current Daniel got flashed into the past and warned a then-young Charlotte not to come to the island?

Ben was also quite amazing tonight. The way he freaked out at Jack & Sun in the car, speaking of all he's done to protect them. I really think he'll be able to bring everyone together (even by sneaky means).

But now John is a very sneaky man, much like Ben. Love how he was able to pretty much completely keep his promise to Jin and yet still be able to get Sun to want to come back.

But perhaps the best part was John's encounter with Jacob. Seems he's a bit pissed off at John. So all this is really happening because John was supposed to move the island, not Ben? And what was up with "Say hello to my son"???? Is Christian Jacob? Or is Jacob Christian? And with all these different 'main' players (Jacob, Richard, Ben, Widmore, Hawkins, Abaddon, etc)...... who is really good and who is really bad?

And man Mrs. Hawkins is one creepy lady. Is she some sort of key? Ben is working with her, Jacob told John to go to her, she is Faraday's mother..... I can't wait to see next week's episode.

Speaking of... that is one great preview. The pace of the show is really picking up to lightning speeds. Can you imagine we're only a short time from the return to the island?

Great job Carlton/Damon and the entire cast & crew!!!!!

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

The upcoming episode titles are spoilerific. Methinks that something we are being led to believe right now is a flat out untruth, but I will save that for another time because an episode title (Episode 12) is part of my support for this idea.

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Okay, so I decided to do one big review today instead of multiple small ones.
Spoiler

Tonight's episode was the perfect episode to get us to the next one, if that makes sense. It was by no means a bad episode (like Jack's Tatoo), but it was more a set-up episode than anything else.

The intro was really misleading. For the first 2 minutes I was in utter confusion at "when" we were. Looked nearly exactly like the original crash, but a bit different. So they got back to the island... but how?

The Candle is one cool Dharma station. It has to be the most sci-fi of all the stations we've seen so far. Now how is Ms. Hawkin related to Dharma and/or the Hostiles? And why did ben answer so oddly when asked if he knew about it? Though I loved Ms. Hawkin's response that he is "probably not" telling the truth.

Now is Desmond right about going back to the island and trusting her? Anyone else find it odd about the rabbit in the Magic Act? Almost looked like one of those Dharma rabbits. Liked the scene with Jack & his grand-dad. Looks like he has his dad's possesion now, per Ms. Hawkin's request.

Moving to that odd scene with Kate... what is up with her? What did she do with Aaron? Is Ben involved? And more importantly, when will we find out? And what is up with the instant makeup kiss?

Now that Locke has Christian's shoes... does this make him in a way closer to Jacob-Christian? Is there a deeper connection? When Jack put the unopened letter in the coffin I yelled, "damn you jack... read the letter!!!!"

Sayid ended up on the flight & Hurley bought up most of the seats. Looks like everyone but Aaron is on the plane. But now what happened to ben? Is it a result of him getting everyone else on the plane? Or perhaps has he had a run-in with someone who wished to do him harm?

The expressions on all there faces were so weird. Jack looked surprisingly happy, Sayid looked Nervous, Hurley looked content, Sun looked hopeful and Kate was just downright sad. Loved though that Jack got back the note from Locke. Looks like he was meant to read it.

Loved Ben's "Who Cares?" response to Jack asking what would happend to the other passengers. But on that note.....LEPEDUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Frank looks so young & a lot different then his copter days. But Frank's face was absolutely priceless when he asked Jack if they weren't going to Guam.

Now how does Desmond fit into all of this. What did Hawkins mean when she said the island wasn't finished with him? Will he be brought back (via boat)? Will he want to go back. Will he serve the island some other way? Also did anyone catch which book Ben was reading? Loved his "My mother tuaght me" answer to jack.

But now all John wrote jack was "I wished you believed." Now doesn't Jack feel like an ***? Queue the plane crash effects. "You might want to put your seatbelt on." And everyone has that 'here we go again' face on.

And now were back to the begining of the show. But where are Sun, Sayid, Ben.... and oh yeah... the rest of the plane? Probably for the better though, because OMG it's JIN!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like they landed in the past where Jin is disguised as a Dharma Officer! Now I believe given the time travel in the future from a few weeks ago, the plane crasehd in the future. So is it possible that Jack, Hurley & Kate crash landed in the Dharma past and everyone else crasehd into the present/future?

The show definitely picked up a lot in the end and was a great segue into next week's episode. I cannot wait to see how the islander's got to that point and what they've been doing with Dharma since we last left them. Also cannot wait to see about Locke's backstory and eventual resurection (beautifully alluded to earlier with St. Thomas story). The preview really is remeniscent to the previews for the episode where we found out how John got in the wheelchair (which was an awesome episode). And just a little question, if they wanted to make the flight as similar as possible to the original, shouldn't Walt have joined them? Obviously there are practical problems to having that happen (the fact that Malcolm David Kelley has grown so much, etc) but it would have been cool. Also, does the man that gave condolences to Jack have any significance?

Re: 'LOST' 5 - spoilers ahead, again

Long spoilers for speculation and such. Will mark as I go.

Spoiler
The problem I have with the plane people crashing in a different time is that they were all in the same part of the plane, except for Ben, who I think is probably chilling around the bathroom or something.

About next week's episode (not REALLY a spoiler, but meh) and it's "order" in the season

Spoiler
DI, it's funny that you think this episode was a set-up episode for next week because this week's episode was ORIGINALLY supposed to be episode 7. Which makes me fear you have this backward. I think next week is going to be nothing but Locke from when he gets off the island to when he gets back TO the island.

About Locke

Spoiler
Don't think he's dead, based on some talking and lines and on some later episode titles

I, too, wonder what happened in terms of some of the questions this episode brought up.

I would say that the two line exchange between Jack and Ben is quite possibly my favorite two lines on the whole show so far.

EDIT:

About next week's preview
Spoiler
In the scene with Locke's suicide, it looks like Ben IS there with him, which makes Ben a liar
