Grey's Anatomy Season 5

Last night was the first episode of Grey's Anatomy.

What did you think?

What do you expect in this season?

I liked last night's episode, it was a moving so fast though I'm was trying to keep the hidden messages together. LOL

Let's break it down by character:

Meredith - Growth and realization are two words that come to mind about her.
Derek - Didn't like the whole mess with the nurse, thought it was kinda stupid.
Nurse - I understand her frustration, just thought she was smarter than how they protrayed her character.
Bailey - Didn't do much with her last night.
George and Lacey - LOVED this, I like how they are playing this out.
Izzy - LOVED LOVED the Denny, Izzy thing.
Karev can go screw himself.
Callie - I don't know if I liked her breaking down like that.
Yang - Her interns taking her photos of the icicle was priceless. LOL
Erica - Good for her for finding her teaching style.

On a side note I just realized that Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) was the girl in the well in Silence of the Lambs. "It puts the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again."

I don't want to say too much for those who may tivo the show. But the Christina's story line I didn't like. Meredith's fear of commitment is really annoying. But I was so happy to see Mariette Hartley, Kathy Baker and my fave Bernadette Peters on the show. They showed Katherine Heigel & Co. what real talent is. Overall I wasn't blown away. It was okay.

I have to say my favorite part was Cristina's "Dream" (if that's what it was...) with old Mer and Cristina.

But I loved the whole episode, it's so carefully/cleverly written and filmed! There were a few parts that really impressed me (I'm a film minor though, so I won't bore you all here). But, for a opening episode I thought it was great. Great tone, pace, and set up for the rest of the season (well, we'll see I guess).

You know, the thing I can't understand about Grey's fans, is why ever is so critical of Meredith? Yeah, she's not a ball of sunshine, but that's how she's always been, if she were to change suddenly and become a bright-eyed optimist, that wouldn't be true to her character, and wouldn't be a realistic portrayal of how real life human being work. She going through a slow growth, and I find it very interesting.

But, off my soap box now. I'm just glad Grey's is back!

I loved Bernadette Peters -- she is a beautiful as ever! Overall a good episode. Loved the interns taking pictures of the icicle too!

I do have to say the whole icicle story was quite far fetched! You would never find an icicle that huge in Seattle!

I'll check it out...the writing on this show is always so good...it's one of the few old network dramas I watch regularly any more...good to see that there' still room for scripted, non-fake "reality" TV...

Apparently when the Emmy nominations came around Katharine stated that she felt she didn't have any material that was "Emmy worthy", while Shonda was always cordial about it some people speculated that it caused some rifts behind the scenes.

Again, all of this is speculation of course but I imagine her comments didn't sit well with the writer's of the show.

Nope. Here is a story that might clear a bit up.

that's just one I found quickly. I read another one a while ago where Shonda Rhimes said something to the extent of "We love Izzie" and how they wouldn't kill her off.

I'm not sure if Heigl really had a point though...I don't remember her character being THAT bad in season 4... But whatever!

^Right, she was cordial about the whole thing and said they wouldn't get rid of her but to think it didn't cause bad blood behind the scenes, well I don't believe that for a moment.
