New Miser Brother Christmas Special to air on ABC Family!

Just saw a promo on ABC Family for a new Miser Brothers Christmas special.
Hopefully this will be better than the live action made for TV movie that was done in the last couple of years.

The Miser Brothers are from the Rankin-Bass Christmas Special: They Year Without a Santa Claus.

Definitely looks worthy of a look. I'm glad they stuck with the classic stop motion animation and didn't just make some cheap cg thing with the characters.

I LOVE The Misers and this looks good. They seem to have done a good job matching the voice talent of the original. I'm also glad that they didn't take the cheap route and just animate it.

It certainly has the jittery motion that the original special had, but I'm not so sure whether it was stop motion, or computer animation. I would guess computer animation with the way some of the shots were done. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, Mickey Rooney did the voice of Santa in the original AND in this special. Also, George S. Irvive did the voice of Heat Miser in both specials. Shirley Booth (Mrs Claus) and Dick Shawn (Snow Mise) both passed away, so new voices were cast for those roles.

They came reall close to the looks on Snow and Heat, but they didn't really get the look right on Santa. And Mrs. Claus is WAY wrong.


Oh, anyone remember the sequel done to the Island of Misfit Toys, the one that was done in CGI? There was some HORRIBLE animation in that special. Thankfully, the new Miser Brothers special looks better than that.

As far as the stop motion vs. computer animation, not sure.

That would be cool if they use the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy remake of the song.

It looks CGI but made to replicate the look of Animagic.

I hope it dosen't suck air.

... I'll stick to the original... which I have on DVD.

I was really quite disappointed. It wasn't a bad story concept, but I just wasn't impressed with the execution of it. In particular, the new songs were really bad (and badly sung).

I didn't bother with this one. If I remember correctly, the first one was just a big Wal Mart and coke commercial which really bugged me and I stopped watching halfway in because I was tired of all the product placement.
