I loved those shows. I wish the programming execs would still believe that kids would watch shows like that today - my kids would. Saturday mornings used to be such a great thing.

Re: Sid and Marty Kroft Nostalgia

Those shows were so freaky and trippy. I'm amazed we didn't have nightmares as a result. Whenever Nick at Night or TV Land has those late night Krofft marathons though, you bet your sweet bippy I'll watch.

Did you know there was a Krofft indoor theme park in Atlanta back in the late 70's? It only lasted for a year, but it sounded like it was tackily awesome. There was a HR Puff-N-Stuff dark ride, a Lidsville stage show, some freaky carousel, a giant pinball machine ride and some other things. It was in the building that now houses the CNN Center.

I haven't seen these shows in years! Wow, that brings back a lot of memories. Makes me also think of The Electric Company when they would have Spider-man in it, I used to love that.

^^Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader.

I need to get that Best of Electric Company DVD sometime. That was Sesame Street for the older, cooler kids. Heh.

I recently watched The Best of the Electirc Company and I totally forgot Morgan Freeman was in it. It was cool to see him in it.

I always loved the beginning of that show when someone would scream:

Hey, you guys!

Rita Moreno!

I've been trying for years to dig up pictures of the Krofft theme park. Just now images are slowly showing up when I Google. I found a random pic of the pinball machine ride, but that's it so far. I'm dying to see the Crystal Carousel, Lidsville theatre show and the H.R. Pufnstuf dark ride. The park was only open for like 6 months, but there HAS to be more pictures floating around somewhere.

I never knew this when I was a kid. But H.R. Pufnstuf is supposedly a reference to pot smoking and drug addiction. "H.R." supposedly stands for "hand rolled". Pufnstuf refers to smoking pot. The theme song says, "H.R. Pufnstuf, can't do a little, cause he can't do enough".

Re: Sid and Marty Kroft Nostalgia

I'll have to watch the whole tvland awards show.

Grew up with HR, (I even still have a Freddie Flute! ~ a really cool multi piece plastic version of freddie, ordered from the back of a cereal box)

Lidsville was ok, was also a Bananna Splits fan club member, loved Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and of course Land of the Lost!

And gotta love the villains from Witchie Poo to whoever Charles Nelson Reilly played!

Re: Sid and Marty Kroft Nostalgia

The Banana Splits were Hanna-Barbara, not Krofft.

Well, technically Hanna-Barbera produced the show,

BUT it was the Krofft Brothers who created the set and the costumes.

What the Banana Splits are to Krofft, is similar to what Oswald was to Disney (not exactly, but close).

In a psychedelic backdrop, four zany animals host a television series featuring four segments which included live action and animated segments.
Created by Sid and Marty Krofft, and produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions The Banana Splits ran on NBC Saturday mornings from September 7, 1968 to September 5, 1970.
